I've been using my HDHomerun successfully with both the quick watch app and VLC.
However, when setting it up under tv-server I have yet to be able to successfully preview a channel.
When I select preview, the box comes up, but it's empty and the app is hung.
I've tried everything I can think of, but no love. Anyone have a clue?

Win XP, latest drivers and MP.

    Hello MrPeach

Unfortunately preview is not really a fool-proof way to test channels. This is because it relies on you having codecs configured correctly on your system, which is unlikely to be the case if you've installed much media related software. If you know about DirectShow filter/codec merits then you can fix the problem by prioritising (increasing the merit of) codecs that you know will work and de-prioritising (decreasing the merit of) codecs that you don't want to use. Filmerit or similar can be used for this. If all of that sounds like gobbledy gook then I suggest you use MP for testing your channels.

I originally tried to just run MP, but it did the same thing I would later discover setup did. I have run Filmerit and done the one button fix. Should this be sufficient, or are there particular codecs that do not work with MP?

    Hello

I originally tried to just run MP, but it did the same thing I would later discover setup did.
MP will do that until you deal with these settings:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...nfiguration/9_Codecs_and_Renderer/1_TV_Codecs

You're at a bit of a disadvantage to start with since you're running XP. In other words, you may not have too many options for those settings. W7 has pretty good codecs from MS that come as standard so it often works straight out of the box.
    The easy fix?
Use the MediaPortal extension installer (shortcut on your desktop or in the Team MediaPortal folder in your start menu) to install the latest version of the LAV codecs. They're very highly regarded around these parts.
Once you've installed that extension, fire up MP configuration and set all the codec settings shown in the link above as well as the other tabs (there are separate tabs for video, TV and DVD codecs) to "LAV Audio..." or "LAV Video...".

I have run Filmerit and done the one button fix. Should this be sufficient...
No, it isn't really sufficient. You would have to check the "merit" rating on each codec installed in the system, then manually bump the merit up for the ones you want to use and down for the ones that you don't. Knowing what to do to fix this takes experience. I would recommend avoiding it and focussing on the MP side of things.
Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if you find that installing the LAV codecs causes preview to start working automatically. :)

, or are there particular codecs that do not work with MP?
It isn't so much compatibility with MP as compatibility with the content that you want to use MP to view. So compatibility with the local ATSC or cable provider video/audio, or with your collection of recordings etc. etc. etc.

    Had LAV, but re-installed it.
Selected LAV in all the playback settings where it's allowed.
    Working now, thanks!
