Horrible TV reception via Mediaportal & no options to alter bitrate etc (1 Viewer)

Hello all! This is my second post concerning an issue i'm having with Mediaportal, but i'm happy to say that after this issue is resolved my Mediaportal will be perfect! Well, that is until i upgrade to Media Portal 2 and start all over again

Anyway, i'm running tmy Mediaportal via a very well equipped home theater PC and have updates every piece of software both external and internal of the program. This issue concerns TV reception, and to why it looks so horrible. When the antennae is running directly into my 55" 7 Series Samsung LED the picture is flawless, so it's clear that something is going wrong.

The TV card i'm using is a DVB-T Avermedia H727 and this is reflected in the TV-Server config. Yet according to many posts here in the forums i should be able to increase the bitrate of the stream in order to improve signal quality. I can't see any of these options where they should appear, nor any other means to increase the quality.

If you have any ideas or have been in a similar situation please help me! Thank you!

Hi,

Since this is DVB-T, you cannot change the bitrate of the stream. The data is already compressed (MPEG2 or MPEG4 depending on the resolution and region).

The simple fact is that PC TV tuners are less sensitive than the ones build in to TVs. Without any more information from you, I can only speculate that you do not have good signal strength and so MP is having trouble.

If you can test with the software that came with the tuner, see if it gives a good result. If it does, then it is not a signal issue.

You can't rely on the measure of signal strength reported by MP. There are so many different standards so that it is probably not correctly reported.

Which video decoders(s) are selected in the TV section of MP config -> codecs and renderer -> TV codecs ?

If you are running Win7, the MS DTV-DVD video decoder is a good choice because it supports DXVA and hardware de-interlacing (i.e the video card hardware does the hard work, not the CPU).

Which video card and CPU are you using ?

If you are referring to stuttering and choppy playback, I highly recommend that you try out the tswriter.ax that is available in the area 51 forum. I was having really bad problems with ATSC and it made a big difference for me.. Only takes 2 or 3 minutes to try, should be worth a shot.

If it's a stuttering/jerky image then you probably either have the refresh rate set incorrectly, or your CPU and/or GPU aren't fast enough. If it's just poor quality, you might have your decoders and/or renderer set up incorrectly.
