[Question] How powerfull CPU do I need for Flash? (1 Viewer)

I'm testing MPExtended on my TV-server atm, the Direct streaming works "ok", but the Flash ones are lagging a lot, and I'm thinking it might have something to do with the weak CPU that I have in the TV-server as it is only a Athlon II X2 240e.

Also, could it be possible to build inn support for some TV-server commands like:

- View active streams\recordings
- Restart TV-Server
- Refresh EGP
- Free storage for timeshift and recording

Yeah, that CPU is probably too slow for transcoding.

Already implemented in 0.5

- Restart TV-Server

I really don't see why that would be needed. Also, impossible (or very hard) to implement when TV Server is not installed on same PC as WebMP.

- Refresh EGP

You can setup the TV server to refresh EPG automatically.

- Free storage for timeshift and recording

Already implemented in 0.5.

Dont see the point with the flashsupport. Adobe have dropped support for android. Flash is unavailable on iphone ..And why would u wanna use flash on a pc. VLC is far better. Id like to see MPExtended & MPWeb as fast and nonresourcehogging with as many features as DVBViewer Recording service. Then I would be happy.

Because before the 1.1.12 release the VLC browser plugin was an unstable, un-maintained resource-hogging, unusable, awful-to-work-with, browser-crashing beast. And that's without (much) exaggaration.

Seriously though, the VLC browser plugin simply wasn't usable. Note that we don't require you to use Flash, it's an easy option that always works. That's not true for VLC: you need to configure VLC and either install the browser plugin or copy/paste the playlist link into an external program.

Id like to see MPExtended & MPWeb as fast and nonresourcehogging with as many features as DVBViewer Recording service. Then I would be happy.

We'd like that too. However, MPExtended is a volunteer project I can only work on in my spare time, so we can't compete with DVBViewer, on which quite some people work full-time, at all (though donations help!). We also have a different focus than DVBViewer - instead of a whole integrated TV solution, we just want to expose MediaPortal over the internet.

My two cents.....

the i3-21xx is the best bang for your buck atm. Your transcoding will be flawless, and each of the 4 cores can handle its own stream without any hiccups. Plus, you can find it on sale for 89$ USD or less.

On thing of note... the CPU is important, but please dont put a good CPU into a board with a poor to bad chipset. It will just hurt you. Go with at least the z68 chipset and that CPU and you will have a blazing nice media server =)

When I click on a link on webpage that points to a .m3u playlistfile it opens automatic in VLC and starts the stream in the program. I dont have to copy/paste anything. Fileassociations is in every browser today. With also the generated m3u file I get a playlist with all the channels my dvbviewer has so I dont have to switch channel from the browser either. These features should be implented in mpweb because I find them superior to anything else.

Not everyone wants to have m3u files associated with VLC by default (I primarily use them for music, which I don't play with VLC).

Thank you. I will most likely put the HW that is in my current HTPC over to the TV-server later this year then since it already has an i3 in it. Just waiting for a good i7 tablet with a good dock to replace all my HTPCs With.
