As per release notes for MP 1.7.0:

"With this release, we have added a setting to allow all files to be scanned in the background. This is turned off by default, so check out the documentation for changes to see where this setting is and how to enable it."

Unfortunately I couldn't find proper documentation on how to enable the background scan. Could anybody help me?

    Thank you!

    It works, thank you!

I think the name of the menu item in Configuration should be changed to be more descriptive in terms of new scanning in the background without user inter intervention feature. At this moment it is called "Add media info to the video database for use in share view" which is not very obvious about describing this new feature.

And the docs page you mentioned doesn't contain the words "scanning in the background" at all, only "without user intervention".

No wonder it is very difficult to find the document and the related feature in MP Configuration. Is is possible to fix that?

    Hi,

here is the docs regards this feature. The process will run when you enter a folder.

Sorry, but you didn't seem to understand me. My point is that the text in the menu and the document should be more descriptive to help to find and use this new feature properly.

This feature was created to support showing the movie duration in list view. You can see an example here.

Is it not clear? Can you give us a clearer description from user perspective?

"Add media info to the video database for use in share view
    Default: Off
When this option is enabled, MediaPortal will scan all movie files for audio and video codec information when opening a Shares view. This function requires a supported skin, and is necessary in order to show duration for the video file in list view automatically. If this setting is unchecked, video duration will only be updated for a movie once it's played or the user selects Update Media info from the context menu."

You need to understand, that the key words are missing in your document, and the search by the words "scan in the background" will not produce any hits.

Sure, I've added the suggested sentence to the Wiki page.
BTW, our Wiki should really be used as a Wiki so there's no need for you guys to ask the Documentation Group if you wish to do any changes. We'll probably audit any changes other users do though, so don't be afraid of doing any mistakes. It will be fixed by the next user. That's what Wiki is all about :)

About changing the checkbox text in MediaPortal Configuration, that's something regeszter must do I guess.
Add media info in the background without user intervention to the video database for use in shares view
might be too long so how about:
Automatically add media info to the video database for use in shares view
    ?
