Hi as stated I have an Onkyo TX-SR607 which supports all the different audio codecs for bit-streaming like DD and DTS.

I can successfully bit-stream these formats for my movies but I have some TV series which have mp3 audio tracks 2.0 and 5.1 i think.

The problem with these tracks is they come out as LPCM and are very quiet in comparison to the other DD and DTS tracks

I think I could make my receiver upmix them into DD but the problem is that when I play music it will do the same and I don't like the sound of that at all

So is there a way I can make MediaPortal bitstream all the nice DD DTS stuff but rencode the mp3 (and other stuff flac?) into AC3 before it hits my receiver?
But still have it leave my music alone?

Currently I use ffdshow as a post processing filter on the Live TV stuff to encode that into AC3 and it works well
Thanks for the help

    Hey,

while reading your post I was thinking "alright, ffdshow post processing should fix it". Then I read your last sentence... :)
Why don't you use it in video post processing too?
You can use profiles to get the right encoding for different sources. Don't know if you need that at all. When you enable bit streaming up-mixing will be applied to all other sources.

Edit: I just saw there is mixing in LAV Audio too. You might try that as well. Haven't tried it though...

Thanks Luca I had been searching the forum all last night and just found a post after I missed this one which helped explain things a lot.

Did not realise there was post processing for Video. How did I miss that one!

I think it would be best to use either Lav or ffdshow to do the lot instead of feeding it from one to the other. I just need to learn about the different settings.

Ok so as far as I can tell Lav will not re-encode my audio into AC3.
So I'm guessing my best option would be to allow ffdshow do all my audio

I assume this will not effect my Music as this is handled by the BASS player?

    Thanks again for the help

    hi,

I did a quick test with lav post processing on tv and when turning on first channel it worked. but after changing the channel lav disappeared from the graph...
Yes you can try ffdshow but I don't know if it will apply to music too. If it does you can still use profiles to exclude mp3.

Wow thanks for trying it out Luca, I'm guessing your still on 1.2.3 as I had those issues before and had been using some custom files like TSreader to stop ffdshow from dropping out the graph. This is fixed in 1.3.0 :)

I setup post processing for videos last night and it is nice to get some full volume from my SD stuff.

I'm not sure if profiles will work as most of my SD stuff seems to have an mp3 sound track so I don't want that ignored. Was in a rush and forgot to check if my music was unaffected by the change but I think it will be ok as its decoded by the BASS player.

Only real problem I found was trying to get ffdshow to up-mix as well.
I was trying to get graph studio to work but it just kept freezing and crashing ( I did have proppage.dll registered in my sysWOW64 folder)
I thought graph studio was the one to use with MePo or should I be using graph edit?

Upgraded to 1.3.0 just now on my productive sys, so gonna give pp another try...
Could you please upload screen(s) of your settings in ffdshow?
    You could try graphstudionext...

Sure will do some screenies tomorrow. I cant get graphstudio or graphstudio next to connect the the graph but it is listed.
Graphedit will not even list a remote graph to connect to.

Its odd because I have used it before with no problems.

puh, don't know... think I had something similar before. Put proppage.dll directly on c:/ and registered it. Maybe it'll help...

Hi Luca had a busy weekend but here are the settings I use to post process the no HD audio formats played in MePo
    codecs.png

In the codecs setting you need to turn on "Uncompressed" as the audio passed to FFdshow by LAV will be uncompressed LPCM

    Volume.png

I use the volume setting to bring the stuff post processed in line with the stuff LAV bit-streams otherwise its too loud

    output.png

And then in the outout page I ask FFshow to output as AC3

This means I either get bit-streamed HD audio or I get my audio encoded as AC3.
I'm happy with this and I don't bother trying to upmix in FFDshow as it don't sound nice but my amp takes the AC3 2.0 and makes it sound nice anyway.

The audio from the music player is untouched just as I wanted but I did need to just up the output setting within MePo music config page to bring it inline with the rest of the audio so I'm not constantly changing volume

Still cant get any graph programs to work but as I;m happy I probably wont pursue this but I think i may need to un-register and then re-register both proppage.dll and quartz.dll
