I'm loving media portal, have been running it for more than a year now and love it, love it, love it.

I recently got a couple of new 750GB Sata Drives and have built myself a monster media server and re-did all the network in the house to gigabit.

I will typically get a DVD and rip it to .iso format and save that in the Movies share on the Z: drive (\\monsterserver\movies) I've setup this folder on each of the (3) media portal clients (identical share names and drive letters). Once this is done I can see the .iso file on each of the media portal workstations, play it with no problems and do the IMDB database lookup.

Would it be possible to move or to change the initial location of the media information databases to a share on the monster server and just configure each client to look to that single database? As it is now each time I add a movie, song or whatever I have to go in and do lookup or cover art configuration on each of the 3 Media Portal workstations. This means I have the same data and information stored in 3 locations, each seperate so any changes have to be made at each station.

I'm not currently running MP on the server downstairs, it just hosts the drives and shares. It's a good fast machine so I could run MP on it without any problem and use it as the host DB if I can figure out how to get the other clients to look at it to get their media info for display.

I am planning on installing TV Server and a TV Card on this server at some point (I have lousy tv reception that's not worth recording but am looking at getting a better solution) and I've played with that and it seems to do for the My TV service what I want for the Videos and Music functions.

I have made attempts to copy the database files from the PC with the most complete data to a system with an empty videos DB and copy the thumbs directories over but they still come up blank. I could try to just overlay the entire MP folder from one machine to another, that keeps me from having to go through and do the setups for the existing library, but doesn't solve the problem of adding individual movies or songs - I guess I could script a robocopy from the living room machine over the mp folders on the other clients every night at midnight or something but that's a little messier than I'd like to get.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Yes!

I'm surprised that there where no replies.. I think this functionality is what many people are waiting for.. I really hope this will be the next target for the devs once TVE3 is stable.. Not just the Video database, but all databases, so that we can have a multiple seat config with one central DB

    Hi,

yes, a centralized database is planned! :)

But it will take a while to implement. First goal now, is the stable 0.2.3.0 release. After that, some very new things will come. Just wait and see...

looking forward to it......especially the central DB. It will lower the bandwidth usage and the manual updates on multiple clients....such a pain.....

Is there a way to simply copy over most/all/some of MP's files from one PC to another to save having to do a complete import on multiple machines? I have a relatively slow connection and it takes about 3 days to fully import my movies and TV shows. I've tried copying over c:\program files\team mp etc.\*.* and most things work, but the TV Series banners don't show up even though the series, season, and episode info (text) does.
