How to Watch TV on laptop without TV-card (1 Viewer)

Is it posibly to install the Media Portal client on a laptop without TVcards. I thought I could do I if I just copyed the channellist.xml from the serverpc and installed the Media Portal client plugin on the laptop....but it does not seem to work. Any ideas?

P.s. I have no problems watching TV via VCL media player on my laptop, but I would like to use the best media software ever - Media Portal

It should work, I can watch TV on a laptop like this.

You need to install the Mediaportal SVN build, Mediaportal TV Server and the TV client plugin on the server (the computer with TV card).

Set it up as in the Wiki, making sure that at the end you can watch TV with Mediaportal on the server pc.

Then go to the laptop and install Mediaportal SVN build and the TV client plugin (don't install the TV server). Run mediaportal on the laptop and watch TV. It will ask for the IP Address/name of computer with the TV Server installed and TV card. You should then be able to watch TV on the laptop as long as the server computer is switched on

The reason was, that I had not startet the both the SQL Browser and the SQL Engine on the server!

Now it works like a charm.

its a service that is in windows after the install, it think its set to manual instead of automatic or something like that from memory

I had to go to "My Plugins" and then configure the TV plugin. This asked me for the server IP address. Then the myTV option was added.
Hope this helps... not near my computer for exact walkthrough...

Did you check under "plugins" in the menu? I might be listed there. You can change this in the "plugins" section in MediaPortal setup tool.
