Why not go for the cheapest, nastiest case and hide it?

I use a couple of generic desktop cases (client and server in my case - pun, sorry) and they live inside cupboards. I don't need to SEE them, the MCE IR receiver is on string and on the rare occasion I watch a DVD I open the door, although that could be outside if wanted.

The most obvious sign of my PCs is the IR receiver, and the keyboard and mouse (Microsoft 7000, slim, bluetooth, rechargeable and worth the stupid amounts of money it cost - £80, as unlike the 6 or so other wireless keyboards I've got it works at a good distance!)

Although I have done the 'nice case' route it really doesn't fulfil any useful criteria - do you REALLY want to see the box?

Heck, at one time I had PCs in wooden boxes (not cases) under the settee! Made the keyboards etc work really well as you were stuck on top of them. Bit warm in summer though...:)

Oh, small plus - might make it quieter too., although you have to take note of heat issues.

I'd say that unless you are quite good with computers and have a strong drive to spend a lot of time making "hacks" to software and programs, don't bother with any case that has a touchscreen! You will be wasting your money and will be frustrated and dissapointed.

I say this as I know how hard it can be to get a touchscreen to do anything useful. My rig (check my sig for build links) uses a touchscreen BUT!!!!! - I programmed my HTPC system on my laptop and experimented with a 10" touchscreen that I already had for a few months BEFORE spending money on a case. Hit e-bay and get a cheap $120 8" TS and experiment with that first. If you have $600-1000 to spend on a flashy case then you really should invest and experiment first. I have seen many a post on many a forum with people that have the cases (with crappy iMON software) and get no use out of it.

I love my touchscreen. Great for browsing news, music, TV shows etc. If you know how to get it all working then it is well worth it.

FYI - Media Portal won't work the way my software does on the touchscreen because it doesn't like to scale between 1280x768 to 1024x768 very well and doesn't like being shifted between dual monitors.
