I have 7 QAM channels that work most of the time. However, there are times when I receive a no signal message when choosing a channel map to the HVR-1600. Here is a scenario:
I choose channel 706 and it says no signal. Then I choose 704 and the channel comes on. I then return to channel 706 and it works. I can deal with this when watching live TV, however, this happens when I am recording from the HVR-1600. So when I go and look for the recorded program it is not there because the HVR-1600 did not "turn on".

I am wondering if the card is shutting down and not responding to MP's request. Is there a setting that keeps the TVServer in constant connection to the card or send a "wake-up" command to the card before recording?

    Hello hootie318

Sorry for the slow response. I've had absolutely no access to internet for the last week or so... :(
As Ron has said, we're going to need your log files to assist on this one.

Sorry it took so long. I was waiting for the problem to happen again to recover a set of logs closer to the event.
I was set to record a program on QAM channel 706 at 7:00 CST tonight. The recording did not happen.

The logs you've provided are the MediaPortal logs. We need the TV Server logs to track down recording problems.

Assuming you're running a single-seat (MediaPortal and TV Server on the same PC) configuration, please could you use the standard tool (watchdog) to grab your logs:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/16_Support/3_Forums/2_Log_Files

Please use option 3 - it will export your existing MediaPortal and TV Server logs.

If all else fails (or running a multi-seat system):
    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Click "open log directory" in the top left corner.
    3. Zip up the files you find there and post the zip file here.

    Thanks (y)

TV Server recognised it was time to record, and attempted to start the recording:

[2014-03-05 18:56:07,519] [Log ] [scheduler thread] [INFO ] - dvb: LockInOnSignal could not lock onto channel - no signal or bad signal

This was repeated every 15 seconds until the program finished.

If you look back to the previous tune request before the recording attempted to start, you'll see it was for the same physical channel (52):
    [2014-03-05 18:49:15,257] [Log ] [DVB EPG timer] [INFO ] - atsc:Tune:ATSC:tv:Cable PBS World (PBS Wor) Freq:391262 ONID:48 TSID:10111 SID:4 PMT:0x40 FTA:True LCN:52 phys:52 maj:12 min:2 mod:Mod256Qam

    That tune request succeeded:
[2014-03-05 18:49:15,912] [Log ] [DVB EPG timer] [INFO ] - dvb: LockInOnSignal ok

So, how is it possible that the recording failed with no signal?

The short answer is: a combination of configuration, driver and MediaPortal behaviour.
MediaPortal assumes it doesn't need to tell the tuner to tune before starting the recording. It should already have been tuned due to the previous tune request for PBS. However, it seems that the driver for your tuner doesn't remember that it is already tuned (this is quite unusual).

First step to attempt to solve the problem...
Disable the DVB EPG grabber. The DVB EPG grabber only grabs DVB EPG; doesn't work for ATSC or clear QAM. You really don't want to have it enabled because it will constantly use your tuners (= more power used, shorter tuner lifetime, longer logs) and randomly cause this problem without actually getting any EPG for you. So, untick the idle and timeshifting EPG grabbers here:
    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...figuration/TV-Server_Configuration/05_DVB_EPG

    Second...
Please peform the following test with MediaPortal:
    1. Open MP and go to the TV section.
    2. Attempt to tune PBS World. If the tune request fails, try tune FOX8 first then go back to PBS - it should work.
    3. Stop TV.
    4. Now attempt to tune WDSU-DT. I'd expect this to fail.
    5. Close MediaPortal and open TV Server configuration.
    6. Edit the settings for tuner 5: http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...nfiguration/02_TV_Servers#Edit_Tuner_Settings
    7. Set "preferred network provider" to "ATSC". Save and close.
    8. Restart the TV service.
    9. Attempt to reproduce the problem again by repeating steps 1 through 4... though hopefully this time step 4 will succeed.
    10. Regardless of the outcome of the above, please post the TV Server logs again.

Everything worked like you said it would until I changed from Generic to ATSC. It now says that it is unable to graph card for every channel

    Thanks... however, instruction 10.
Regardless of the outcome of the above, please post the TV Server logs again.

I really need that information to assist further.
