I'm glad you manage to solve your problem. I don't know if it might help even more, but i'd try also disabling all unnecessary services in the nas to free some memory. I'm pretty sure 4XX models comes with bonjour and web server active, you can safely disable them (the web admin console runs under web management, a completely different service).
