Please make sure that no firewall is blocking the Internet requests made by the installer.

How are you connected to the Internet (Proxy, ...) ?

Interesting problem. You say internet is working probably because you can open a browser and get out. But perhaps the browser is configured in such a way to get out but the PC cannot natively "see" the internet. To test this, see if you can simply "ping" a website. For example...

    Code:
    C:\>ping www.google.com

Pinging www.l.google.com [64.233.169.147] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 64.233.169.147: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=245
    Reply from 64.233.169.147: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=245
    Reply from 64.233.169.147: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=245
    Reply from 64.233.169.147: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=245

    Ping statistics for 64.233.169.147:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 18ms, Maximum = 28ms, Average = 21ms

Any Antivirus\Antispyware software installed, these may be blocking ports needed for legitimate connections.

Unless it's your isp is some how blocking these, or some other influence on your pc, maybe your browser, I normally use Firefox, but some connections just do not like it, and end up reverting to IE8 occasionally.

Might be worthwhile doing a "offline" install at work, then copying the relevant folder to a removable source and trying that way to install.

Most of us within Team-Mediaportal, update software on a regular basis, as they do vice versa :), whether it's the latest XBMC or Meedios release, just so we can get ideas as to what may be demanded by users in the future, and I do not know of one person who has the problem you have, so it's so far outside our control, we have no idea how to fix it.

    :sorry:

I'm using firefox and also have ie8 installed. I've never had a problem with anything else. I was able to download at work and then do the install but weather and other web related functions will not work. I have read of others having problems, seems to be related to proxy servers?

woohoo..figured it out...one of two things. Ie8 (I went back to 7) and i completely removed my antivirus that was a pain anyway.
