Installing on Xp Pro 64 bit (1 Viewer)

The unzipped file will not install with the provided installers and crashes. The workaround was to 'extract' the files instead of running it.

The idea is indeed to just unzip it in a folder and run the MediaPortal executable.

Installing MediaPortal in Windows XP x64

Here's how to install MediaPortal in XP x64:

1. Download and install the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (Note: This is a good tool to have for those with XP x64 for cases such as these. It is a more powerful version of the Program Compatibility Wizard that can be found in the Accessories program group.)
2. Download the required files for MediaPortal.
3. Start the Compatibility Administrator program, and click on the Fix button. Click on the browse button and navigate your way to the package-mediaportal.exe file. (Type whatever you want for the program name.) Click Next.
4. In the Compatibility Modes section, select None under Operating System Modes. Click Next.
5. In the Compatibility Fixes section, put a checkmark next to WinXPSP2VersionLie. Click Next. Click Finish.
6. Now click on the Run button.

If you also need to install the TV server software, repeat the above steps but select the file package-tvengine.exe in the third step.

I hope this will help all of those running XP x64.

Seems like the installation is running under windows xp x64

i hope it will ever run, so i dont need to buy an vista x64 lizence

i have installed all except the media portal!

if i try to install it ill get an error about unsupportet operating system.
is there still a chance to get it running?

There are few options with the video playback and the font which have some issues but nothing major. I am elated to have this working on my newly built workstation!!!

Do you have any suggestions regarding getting a tv tuner card which can be used with XP64?

Liszca, Follow the steps listed in Paul's suggestion. If you install the media portal (unzipped packages) using the Microsoft compatibility tool, things work fine.

Sorry for the late reply. The TV tuner I have is the ATI TV Wonder 650. It has both an analog tuner and an ATSC tuner (free off-the-air digital TV). The analog quality is supposedly the best. I haven't researched whether it is possible to get digital cable TV on it or not. Maybe there is a way to convert the digital cable TV to ATSC.

I am running XP 64-bit (Service Pack2) and tried Paul3's process, but I still cannot install MP. Are there any other suggestions other than not using 64-bit OS (I really don't wanna buy Windows and this version was free)?

If you follow the directions exactly you should be able to install MP. I have the same OS as you and I was able to install it.

If I and several others have installed MP successfully via the steps outlined above, then you must be doing something wrong.
