Could be that Media Center services are killing the Input Service's connection to the device. I'll look into changing the way I prevent the Media Center services from running ... I currently just kill them if they are running, but I probably need to actually Disable them in case they are starting after Input Service.

    djkms:

You could uninstall the driver with devcon.exe, download the MCE Replacement Driver package and look at the batch files in there. They use devcon to install and uninstall the replacement driver, with some minor modifications you could make two batch files to uninstall and reinstall your remote driver when playing the game. Let me know if you need help.

    Terriff:

Sounds like these things are working for you, but you're not mapping the input. You could try enabling Abstract Remote Model in the Input Service configuration, or setting up a new remote map in MP Control Plugin or Translator.

I'll have to get back to you with better instructions for that, or look around the forum and see what you can find.

    DrLurch:

It sounds like your remote hasn't been enabled in Input Service Configuration. What remote device are you using?

    Ironman1965:

Could you bundle up all your logs and email them to me ... I've sent you my email address in private message.

    @Everyone:

New version coming soon. I'm probably going to release 1.4.2 final this weekend even though there will be some known issues still in the code. But I think it's important to get everyone up to a common version and work on the bugs from there.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

Is it possible to use the IR Suite in this scenario:

I have my TV server in room 1 and a TV client in room2. I want to be able to change channels on my Foxtel STB from the TV client in room 2 using an MCE remote control. So I guess what I am asking is if it is possible to send the commands from the remote, to the TV client, through to the TV server and then to my set top box?

Is this even rmeotely possible in any form?

    Thanks!

Absolutely. I'll do a proper write-up on how to do this later, but it will involve multiple installs of the Input Service, one for every machine with an IR device. Then you can do one of several things ...

    1. use the software on one machine pointed at the input service on another.
    or
    2. use the input service on one machine in relay mode to send all input to the other.
    or
    3. use a macro/command on one machine to launch a command line tool that sends to another input service ...

I'll leave you to try it yourself and when I get some time I'll write up a bit more detailed info for you.

    AskewDread:

Try increasing the delay between digits. I'm going to increase the default value for this in the next version because it seems to cause some trouble on the current default. Let me know if that helps. also, what sort of IR device is it? If it's MCE is it genuine Microsoft?

    Cheers,

Thats good news. I think I understand what you are saying (that the software is capable) but what hardware do I need to accompish this? I am confused as to how the IR signal gets from teh TV server to the IR receiver on the Set Top Box. Do I need to get a second IR receiver for the MCE Remote COntrol?

Can't wait for some doco! :)

Seem to have figured a work around. Found the problem with the disappearing icon act. Seems that Translator.xml had the hide in tray flag on. Curious, as my previous install didn't and I don't recall setting this option in the new install. And flag remained on after uninstalling and reinstalling 3-4 times (including deleting any reg entries and nuking the install dir's). Used total commander to find the difference in the previous install vs the current install. Supprised I didn't catch it when viewing with editor  . Anyway the Translator icon is still acting kind of funny though (didn't do this on previous install either). If the service is loaded any time before translator, translator is a no show in the taskbar, until service is stopped. Translator remains after service is restarted, so I'm just using a couple batch files and a startup manager to unload then load service post translator startup (workaround 1). Workaround 2 "seems" to have solved my dillema with the Input Service/Microsoft Mce Transceiver Driver crash problem I was having, particularly while running macros. I associated my .ir files with IRBlast-NoWindow.exe and noticed that double-clicking the .ir files seemed to blast their respective codes fine, so again I went back to batch writing mode and made batch macros using a couple ~'s after each blast (just in case it's a timing issue). I now call the batch files from Translator as run commands and use Translator to map keys for program control and everything seems to work fine so far. Sorry and-81, all I have left of the FUBAR logs are Input Service.Log & MicrosoftMceTransceiver_DriverXP.Log. I'll get them out to ya though. They are the ones I copied from in my original reply. If my system fails and I start having the same problems, I'll pack up all the logs over 2-3 sessions and mail them to ya. Hope the 2 I'm sending help though :) .

I like the IR serversuite very much but I have a problem with the MCE remote and blasting.
I can blast my arcam reciever but when I want to learn the MCE remote IR commands of the TV (panasonic plasma pv37) then the blasting stops working? When I reset the learned IR commands on the remote blasting is working?
Is it posible to use both way's? (blasting to TV is not posible because I can't learn IR commands to the blaster?)

I'm using Vista and have the same problem as sloty32 with standby. The MCE remote responses only to basic buttons until Input service is restarted. As a workaround I use a stop/start script that Power scheduler plugin triggers on standby.
