nope. MP simply uses Windows. There are tipps on how to stripp down Windows with nLight and to use MP as a shell instead of the Explorer. So this is the closest way of having a stand alone op-system. Some are hoping on ReactOS, but this is stilll very beta and currently not working with MP.
Tell you what, I haven't tried all of the tips above for such things as remove the windows shell (I like that idea a lot!)
However, with careful use of nLITE, I have managed to strip XP down to just under 100Mb disk footprint, and it'll boot in around 20 seconds. I'd like to get that down to 10, but I haven't figured out how to do that quite yet. Am going to try it with solid state flash and see what happens, but even 20 secs isn't bad.
I'd definitely recommend nLITE, but you can strip out too much if you're not careful.
I tried messing about with XPe, but it's basically the same as using nLITE.... just a slightly different angle. With XPe, you start with pretty much nothing and ADD the features that you need, and with nLITE you start off with full XP and remove what you don't want. It is remarkable how much you can strip out.
If anyone has any ideas on how to get the boot time quicker, I'm all ears
Just wonder if you could post your nLite setting file for minimum XP that is required for MediaPortal. I have stripped mine down to around 300mb, would like to reduce further.
Personally I'm running Vista. I tried running Basic Home, but it has some missing components when it comes to storing network passwords, so I'm stuck with Ultimate atm. I could've run Basic Home if my file server was a windows one, but since I'm using NexentaCore it doesn't seem to be working.
From the boot logo show up untill the desktop shows up it takes me 26 sec. And then maybe 5 more secs untill the it's done loading windows. (the busy mouse icon drops away)
My main problem tough is the long loading time between Vista desktop, and a functional MP, it takes me about 3 extra minutes untill MP is up and running.
My installation CD is down to about 700MB, and my installation takes up about 8GB

Today I wanted to check the Changelog for version 1.34 (1.31 installed on my system) and I was asked for a “Jira” login. I tried to use the same one as...
