Hi, Is there any way to prevent other programs from accessing the TV tuners I have set up in the TV Server? I like to dedicate tuners for two different programs (Orb and Media Portal), however, Orb has no function to dedicate a tuner. I was wondering if TV Server has such a function?

I just think no one would recommend having 2 programs installed that can access tuners, because this may cause conflicts within your installation of windows.

Right, that is my question....I was wondering if I can dedicate (lock) the tuners I want to use with MP and prevent the other program from accessing it.

If the other program is behaving "badly" i.e. not allowing you to limit its tuner asege any way then there is nothing that TVE3 can do to solve the issue.

    thanks for the reply,

there is something that I'm doing with TVE3 to resolve this.

Currently, I'm using VNC to go to my server to turn on timeshifting via tvserver config. Once I have the tuner busy, Orb (the other software) would pick the correct tuner.

Obviously, the best solution is to use MP to do everything, but at this moment, the over the web streaming is better with Orb.

So is there any command line thing that I can do with TV server that would keep my dedicated tuners busy with MP?

At least TV Server doesn't lock idle cards from use by other programs anymore. Mediaportal should be able to work out if a card is in use and then move to it's next assigned card. There was much discussion about this years ago when Web Scheduler and Digitalwatch were being developed. Both of those programs were system friendly and would coexist with other apps. Meedio and most of the Winfast programs also happily share cards, and from memory ProgDVB was fine too. I havent really tested anything else. From memory, MediaPortal used to take over the card if Web Scheduler was using it. The current TV Server appears to have an error and fail to use the tuner?

What happens when Orb go if it tries to use a card MP is using? There must be some sort of way of working out which tuner Orb will use first? Then force MP to use the other cards only. Pretty slack a program that allows multiple tuners doesn't let u select which to use, what about order?
