Well, I'm not going to say that I didn't have trouble getting everything going but as far as being able to play 1080P goes this Intel DG45ID motherboard is a big time winner. It will play a 1080P h264 mkv with the processor basically at idle.

Intel DG45ID Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93Ghz
2 GB Crucial 1024MB PC6400 DDR2 800MH
Seagate 1.5TB Serial ATA HD 7200/32MB/SATA-3G
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Haali media splitter decoding h264 MKV

Avatar 1080P Bluray rip goes no higher than 3% processor. The video was smooth with absolutely no sign of any stuttering or problems that I could see.

I had a lot of trouble getting everything going but it turns out that not only did I have a bad power supply my copy of Windows was also corrupted. I reinstalled windows 7 x86 four times and couldn't get anything to work. I then tried the 64 bit version and other than having some trouble downloading 64 bit drivers from Intel's website everything went smooth as glass. I was worried about the 2gb of ram since people here seem to recommend way more than that but I'm not even close to using the 2gb so I don't know why people are recommending so much ram.

In the spirit of full disclosure: I have found that most mkv run at about 20% processor. I don't know why the Avatar 1080p file is so efficient. Everything is smooth as glass though no matter what I have thrown at it. Pretty happy. :D
