This personal experience i cannot share.

I have Altdvb with a skystar2 in the same driver setup as TVE3. Both operated from a remote computer. A channelchange in MP takes 4-8 seconds from the moment the 'green circle' starts. A channel change in Altdvb takes less then a second.

It would be interesting to hear from others who have multiple setups about this.

The question is of course if this is because of the TV-Server -> client solution or if it's because Altdvd has more specialized code for each tv-card. CAM settings and stuff like that.

If certain configurations gives you switches in ~1s then that would indicate that it's the latter. I've tested with Technotrends own application f.e and it's not faster then the TV-Engine. Despite being a single application that looks like crap, has no special features, and it's their own tv-card.

the problem with the TV-Cards is simply their drivers and firmware..... but i would love to see ::this part:: in the wiki used more by the community (fill it with reviews!!!!) which would help new ppl to choose their hardware.
These pages are immutable Chris. How can i edit these pages?
    register an wiki account ::here::

    and login :)

note: without a required registration, the wiki would be flooded with ads by spambots.

imo. slow channel-change speeds are not a general issue of TV-Server.

in singleseat its ~1second (which is nearly the maximum you can get on dvb by design of dvb ) here
and in multiseat it is slightly slower.

from my personal experience i can tell that, the "real" slowdown in channelchange-speed is caused by the TV-Card.

erm.... you use i.e. uVNC to connect to your HTPC and then kick off a channel switch?

well..... i never tried that, and i hofe no clue which/if impact this has on
    the switch times.

but if you use "directly" use your PC as i do here, the switchtimes are damn fine. even faster as my 3years old Kathrein dvb-s STB.

I use a single seat setup (based on a technotrend s2-3200) and have channel change times from 1-2 seconds depending on the specs of these channels. Don't forget to play around with the settings in the tv plugin (configurtaion.exe->plugins). The default settings forcing MP to recreate the graph if the video or audio specs have changed (from one channel to the other). The rendering speed of a new graph depends on many things that not only depending on MP (which codec is used, how many codec are installed on the system... etc.). If Altdvb does not recreate the graphs during a channel change then this maybe the reason why it is much faster.

In my case I have all checkboxes enabled but maybe it is on option for you to disable them...

No, I mean i use Alt-dvb netclient and i use TVE3 client plugin in MP.

By the way, yesterday i tested this setup with three other cards:

    KNC-one dvb-s
    Technotrend budged 1500
    Technotrend 3200

All these card have about the same switchtimes of around 4 seconds swiching on the same transponder, operated from TVE3 client plugin.

If i test these cards in DVBViewer, using dvbserver setup, the switch times are around 2 seconds.

I cannot conclude otherwise then that a considerable amount of extra overhead is in TVE3.

It looks like both in Altdvb and MP the graph is recreated when swiching channels. Also, i use the same codecs (cyberlink video and audio, video renderer and default directsound) in both applications. I use altdvb with Windows Media Player Classic an MP with it's own player.

In my setup i cannot test a single seat setup as my server has no monitor or keyboard. Can you test multiseat and compare with singelseat?
