Hi All,

Just to report you my issue (I have attached a video that explains better what is happening) when trying to watch some HD channels (i.e. Mediaset HD). I'm in Italy.

The channels are FTA (Free To Air) and the issue is just for the three HD channels provieded by Mediaset. As you can see, there is no issue at all while watching RAI 1 HD...but as soon as I try to change to one of the other three channels...that is what happen! I have laready tried several different codecs: LAV, PowerDVD, Microsoft native...but with the same unlucky result.

Did someone else experienced the same (or similar) issue?

If needed I can post the complete logs.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the logs axlt2002 (y)

I'll get straight to the point...
To me it looks like your signal quality for the Mediaset channels is poor.

    Looking at Rai...

Different frequencies can have different signal quality.

Please check that the frequencies are correct. If they're correct, check your aerial condition, alignment, cabling, splitters etc.

Wow! Thanks a lot for scanning the logs! :)

So is a signal quality issue...do you think that changing the codec may provide some improvements? I really don't know how to manage any of the other "things" you listed... o_O

    No problem. :)

So is a signal quality issue...
    Seems most likely.
You can double check by using the "manual control" section of TV Server configuration. Select the Rai HD channel and click "start timeshifting". Watch the signal strength/quality and discontinuity counter values. Repeat for the Mediaset channels. I expect you will see the signal level/quality is consistently higher for the Rai channel, and you may see the discontinuity counter increasing for Mediaset channels. The discontinuity counter can indicate bad signal quality or stressed HDD (too full, timeshift or TV Server program files being scanned by security software).

do you think that changing the codec may provide some improvements? I really don't know how to manage any of the other "things" you listed... o_O
No. If the problem is signal related, codecs will make no difference.
I would say to you: first test with "manual control" as described above. Then, if the problem seems to be signal related as suspected, call a professional to check your aerial and cabling.

Thanks a lot for your kind reply and explainations mm!!! I will try to check the discontinuity counter for both channels in order to understand better where the issue can be...I will play a little bit also with the antivirus settings to improve the performances!

I'll let you know! For now thanks again!

Ok, do not ask my any explaination...I have installed the new PowerDVD codecs (13+) and the issue with the mentioned HD channels has disappeared! The interesting thing is that if I put back LAV, PowerDVD (10+) or native Microsoft codecs, the issue is still there! So it seems that the codec may improve the performances in the signal processing...again...don't ask me any explaination!

Thanks a lot for your valuable support!!! (y)
