And the prime reason is there are no clear instructions how to use it. Ok there's a wiki, but just a simple pdf would be nice!
The second reason is it's massive and requires the installation of windows media player (which I do not use) and other things.
I primarily wanted to use it to stream video files from a netgear stora and a proliant microserver here. I have no use for the tv function.
This I can do with videolan player
I've downloaded a upnp plugin which does nothing.
All there appears to be is a configuration page or the user interface which looks quite nice I suppose if you like that sort of thing but doesn't seem to contain suitable options.

    Hi,

your first posting is to say us, you uninstalled MP because you dont know how to use it and you got some problems? Why you have signed up to the forum
when you uninstalled MP? i think it would make more sens if you post some questions how to use MP and how to sort your problems out instead of saying us that you uninstalled MP. Remember...open source software normally is no out of the box solution!

    Hi Jasee,

I see you are in the UK, like several of us here on this forum. Welcome.

I am a little confused by your first post. Can you clarify your query a bit? Do you have a problem getting MediaPortal running or configuring it?

MediaPortal can be a bit overwhelming at first as it can do so much and it is certainly not a 'plug and play' media solution, but feel free to ask we are here to help.

Looks like you only want to bash mp and its community which I don't understand actually, because you haven't paid
a cent for this program so just throw it off your hdd, find something else and never mind....

I think he has valid points, mediaportal is relatively hard to install. hopefully MP2 will come with a setup wizard, so new users can setup mediaportal only using a wizard rather than a config with a lot of options (even in basic mode there are a too many options for novice computer users)

The wiki is always going to be daunting because mediaportal does so many things, that it's always going to be a huge wall of text and information.[DOUBLEPOST=1353665640][/DOUBLEPOST]EDIT: Maybe the installer should open the quick setup guide in the browser after installation?

I actually didn't find it hard to install at all, and while there are a few nagging issues, most everything works beautifully for me. I  MediaPortal

However, I did use a quide that I found on AVS forums that had the whole process on one page, and I think that was definitely helpful. And being in the US I had to spend extra time on the EPG, but once it is set up it's done.

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the OP was really looking for help, but he does raise a valid point the for a very casual user, the process could be daunting.

Always going to be a problem with such powerful, configurable software. But if I were a novice, I'd want a better "out of box" experience too.
