Synopsis: OK, finally got here.
I have just spent a couple of days struggling with MP. I have to say, I have never found a piece of software so abstruse and woolly to set up. There is loads of help here, but whenever I do a search, I look at the post, and it's all references to other posts. I found one which referred to a post, which in turn referenced another post!!! I've spent so long navigating, I got nothing done. The wiki looks great, until I realised there are no references to DVB-T, it's only analogue. So I again search here, and there appears to be no definitive explanation of how to get a DVB-T TV card working. If there is, I've missed it (see previous point...) Another time, I was advised to download the latest CVS file. Nowhere is there a good reference to what a CVS really is, and I'm afraid my German only extends to 'touristy' stuff. And the English translation is laughable!. Further, what's with using RAR to compress with? - that's *nix, for heaven's sake - been there, done that. What's wrong with a good old Zip file? After all, I thought this was a Windows application.
Before you all get hot under the collar with me criticising your favourite PVR and get the idea I don't know what I'm doing, I've been in this game for twenty years, the last seven of those in Education, and you want to see how some of their sofware works out, so I'm used to trying - very hard, but without some clear and definitive leads, it's far too easy to get lost and disheartened - which is where I am right now!!
I can only say that there are probably a number of people that stumble across MP, as I did, and give up, falling at the first hurdle.
Unfortunately, unless someone can point me in the right direction ( and I really do want to try MP), I will probably give up, which would be a great shame, because this is obviously a great community, and you all seem to know exactly how to get this beast rocking, so, please, spare a few thoughts for us noobees so we can join in!
I hope this hasn't come over as too heavy a rant, but help for raw beginners is woefully lacking, and MP won't expand beyond a knowledgeable few, which would be a great shame.
If you've read this far, thanks for listening, Andy E.
