Synopsis: OK, finally got here.
I have just spent a couple of days struggling with MP. I have to say, I have never found a piece of software so abstruse and woolly to set up. There is loads of help here, but whenever I do a search, I look at the post, and it's all references to other posts. I found one which referred to a post, which in turn referenced another post!!! I've spent so long navigating, I got nothing done. The wiki looks great, until I realised there are no references to DVB-T, it's only analogue. So I again search here, and there appears to be no definitive explanation of how to get a DVB-T TV card working. If there is, I've missed it (see previous point...) Another time, I was advised to download the latest CVS file. Nowhere is there a good reference to what a CVS really is, and I'm afraid my German only extends to 'touristy' stuff. And the English translation is laughable!. Further, what's with using RAR to compress with? - that's *nix, for heaven's sake - been there, done that. What's wrong with a good old Zip file? After all, I thought this was a Windows application.
Before you all get hot under the collar with me criticising your favourite PVR and get the idea I don't know what I'm doing, I've been in this game for twenty years, the last seven of those in Education, and you want to see how some of their sofware works out, so I'm used to trying - very hard, but without some clear and definitive leads, it's far too easy to get lost and disheartened - which is where I am right now!!
I can only say that there are probably a number of people that stumble across MP, as I did, and give up, falling at the first hurdle.
Unfortunately, unless someone can point me in the right direction ( and I really do want to try MP), I will probably give up, which would be a great shame, because this is obviously a great community, and you all seem to know exactly how to get this beast rocking, so, please, spare a few thoughts for us noobees so we can join in!

I hope this hasn't come over as too heavy a rant, but help for raw beginners is woefully lacking, and MP won't expand beyond a knowledgeable few, which would be a great shame.

If you've read this far, thanks for listening, Andy E.

    Hi,

it is really difficult to answer on such a post. You may always rant, but please do it in Media Portal Talk! :)

In your whole post some things are missing to give you more help or advise.
What did you try so far and what did go wrong?
Is the card detected by MP?
    Does it not tune correct?
Does the TV not show up?

    Flip.

    - The CVS is a daily snapshot of the current work. Since RC2 many changes were made which may help.
    - Bad translation? Make it better!
    - No WiKi entry for your card? If you manage it to make it work (hopefully) then write an article for the WiKi!

...my TV Cards were not detected. Media portal starts, and all sections work, except for the TV. I have looked in the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file, and my cards are in there. I have no idea how to make them work. I would have thought that as they are in this definition file, they should be auto-detected.

Is this wrong? Is there something else I should be doing?

I have been back to the Requirements, and ensured I have the necessary files & fixes on-board - they are...

And - thanks for the pointer to Media Portal Talk... :)

    Regards, Andy E.

    Hi,

yes, your card should be detected automatically. Does it have BDA drivers?

You may give a CVS a try (I know, its a known tipp ;)). Especially TV card support has been widend. Just make a copy of your current MediaPortal directory (eg. MediaPortal_CVS) and extract the RAR file there. Run start.bat and Configure.exe. This will not harm your current installation.

Or wait some days. The team wants to make a new release this weekend.

    Flip.

PS: Changed your topic, to attract readers with the same type of card.

I have a modded capturecardsdefinition.xml which I've pasted here below.
It seems to have 2 entries for leadtek1000T a "1000T" and a "1000 T" (with space). Looking at my capturecards.xml it looks like MP is picking up the entry with a space - "WinFast DTV1000 T BDA Transport Stream Capture" This matches the controlpannel-system properties too.

Anyway, try pasting this verbatim into your capturecardsdefinition file - it may just work.

BTW, I'm using the 3218 drivers from here...

Here is a working capture card file.

It seems that someone posted a long time ago the wrong details for Leadtek DTV1000 card.

There is a couple of changes needed in ID of the card.

Just download the zip file & upzip it to your Media Portal dir overwriting existing file.
    http://www.mytempdir.com/523228
Now when going to setup TVCard should be detected.
