I am trying to setup the tv server. It says test failed, although connection ocurred, but "login error ...no process at end of pipe"

What password am I supposed to use??? What is an sql server? What is this database system it refers to? A database of what? these things are new to me, as I have never had trouble getting a program to setup before. Any help appreciated, as I spent $3,000 for this machine, and this is all I use it for 99% of the time.

media center worked fine for years. But now, every tv show is restricted content, and the broadcasters won't let it play on a mce computer. Blue screen. Apparently, Mr. high and mighty Bill Gates has taken money from the broadcasters in exchange for rendering his software useless! Must have been a lot of money. no more pc's for me. Never considered mac until now.

when you start tv server setup for the first time it tests the connection with an sql database it uses
the user is "sa" and the password is "MediaPortal"
Type the password exactly as it says here with the capitals

good luck

The problem is that the authentication mode is set to Windows Authentication only, probably when you already have sql server installed. You have to go to the management console and activate mixed mode.

I had the same problem and this solved the issue for me.

NOTE that when you already have the db installed the password will be whatever you set it up as to begin with rather than MediaPortal.

I have a Vista 64 Ultimate system
6 GB ram
A couple of terabyte hard drives and a couple others
I installed MS SQL 2008 x64 express
I am getting the same result.

Connection Failed!
Login failed for user 'sa'

I have a mixed mode and i created a sa account. I also placed the password "MediaPortal" and it doesn't expire.
Still recieving the same error message.

I was considering building a larger system to provide video services.
But i will wait to see if i can get it resolved on this system or i need a smaller system.
