split channel name there into two fields: original channel name and visible channel name

there is no original channel name - its name is copied from first tuningdetails for this channel. So actually if plugin fails to find a match for channel name then we can try to get tuningdetails for that channel and match every tuningdetail name.

Sorry to interrupt the current discussion, but I've just had time to install and play about with the plugin and I have to say I'm very impressed! I currently just use UK fta satellite channels and it was reasonably quick to pick logos for all the channels without any gaps! I like styling options and how you've implemented it into the plugin.
I don't rename any channels, so the that's not an issue for me. This plugin looks like it'll make setup just that little bit easier in future. Thanks!

it is really refreshing to see how you work quickly here. I had made ​​myself a few thoughts about the layout and I do not know what you think about it. I have uploaded my sketches here includes a total of four views:

@bribbon your idea will suit for initial Mediaportal setup wizard if it will be ever made as I think.
Wizard (plugin?) could call specific LogoManager procedures for grabbing/changing pack etc.

Would there be any downsides or objections to adding "full" or "proper" names (that aren't restricted by Sky's EPG character limit) to the LogoMapping XML, as long as they don't create conflicts? Aside from the file being marginally larger of course...

To create your own custom mapping download the LogoMapping.xml file from the repo. Go to your \ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal folder and open LogoManager.config. Find the "Mapping_AltURL" field for the British Pack and add a UNC path to the mapping file e.g.

<Mapping_AltURL>\\<Computer name>\Users\<User name>\Desktop\LogoMapping.xml</Mapping_AltURL>

This doesn't work for me. I just get "Generated 0 logos" when specifying my own LogoMapping.xml file.

EDIT: Fixed that, turns out the default file encoding of Notepad2 didn't match what LogoManager was expecting.

Hi,

Hey W, I've updated the channel names for the channels that's already in the Swedish repository. That means that no Norwegian and Danish channels will have logos however we can probably get them easily if those are added to LogoManager later.
Please run a new grab and tell me if some Swedish channels are still missing logos.

For DVB-T, the only channel I can see missing logo is "C More Sport/SF-Kanalen".
For DVB-S, the main channels missing logos are "Travel Channel HD" and "Eurosport 2 HD" but "HighTv 3D", "CCTV 9 Documentary", "CCTV News" and "The Player Channel" might be worth adding as well.

Does the size (as in pixels) and quality of the logos depend on the distributed files or the theme? In Titan I find e.g. the SVT HD logos or the C-more logos quite hard to distuingish even on a 50" from 2.5m distance. Also, some logos (e.g. TV6, 7, 8, 9) looks like they've been pretty badly scaled.

all logos are 200x200 pixels. so if any particular clear logo is not squared then it will be not so nice-looking.

i implemented getting names to match from tuningdetails if channel name was not found in mapping - hope that it will solve problems of missed matches in mapping for channels that were renamed by user, as user renames channels, but not tuning details.

turns out the default file encoding of Notepad2 didn't match what LogoManager was expecting

LogoManager doesn't expect any particular encoding for mapping file, but reads it from xml file according to XML specifications. So if you haven't changed xml string with encoding (every logo pack i am aware of uses UTF-8), but changed file encoding when saved it - it is clearly user error, and not plugin's one.

Awesome, sounds like a good way to do it. I have my own custom file now but will test this new method when I next need to update (new channel for example).
