Come on people, everyone has the right to his own opinion. We have to respect it, not agree with it.
But babesumitra please get some perspective. Its is not like we are trying to resolve world poverty here. Its just a skin for a application that happens to be great and loved by thousands around the globe.

So, lets get back to work and have fun :D

Indeed. If the nagging and "I'll know the way how things should be handled" mentality post keep appearing -> moderators, you know what is your job :)

No, people who have doubts or strong opinions should NEVER be silenced or banned.
In this case its not what babesumitra (or response to him) said but how he said it. And imo babesumitra could have expressed himself a little bit more subtle.

Opinions indeed is not a valid reason for banning, but not having any manners is.

    So anyyyhooo.. back on topic..

Since MP1.1 will be the last major release before MP2 - Maya should replace Blue3 as the default imo :)

Quite impossible (testing would be needing enormous effort, as for example B3W / B3 are still containing bugs and they have been tested longer than Maya has been even developed :)). Nothing is stopping us from releasing the Maya as official addition during 2010 (or would 2012 suit better with the skin name? :)). Of course it would still need to be bug free, suitable for same screen sizes / viewing distances as default skin and majority of team members would need to support the idea.

There is no need to add "everything" which is cool to MP releases.
If we would do, then TvSeries, Moving Pictures, StreamedMP, etc. would have to be included.

To keep MP "basic" is a good thing for everyone:
    • Users will get a stable and working release, because the team can focus on the "core/basic functionality"
    • CommunitySkin Designers:
      • have complete freedom about i.e. which plugins they support - what the skin should look like/work
      • are able to release new versions whenever they want. If the skin is bundled with MP, you look at a stable release cylce of ~12 months!
    • Simmilar applies to Community Plugins devs

So basically it sounds like a good idea to add cool stuff to MP1.
But if you think about it in detail, you will quickly notice that the current aproach is a lot better for everyone. :)

If I agree with you on the fact that integrating TVSeries / Moving Pictures / StreamedMP would be a mistake because of the learning curve they require (MP being already quite a big piece of software to configure), I can't think of any reason not to have a new skin as the default one.

I like Blue3 and MePo in general but I think it's not sober enough to please everyone. Of course Maya hasn't been released yet so I don't talk about one skin in particular but I would like a better (more sober) skin for MediaPortal. Of course it has to be released in 4:3 / 16:9 and be as tested as Blue3 is today but in the end I think we should have a new default skin.

It would also assure that it stays up to date with the SVN :)

Actually I think that including the most popular plugins (TvSeries/Movingpictures) would be good, the learning curve on those plugins are pretty much point to folder and click import, then sit back and answer any queries it pops up.

Those 2 plugins themselves which make MP a great system.

I also think that including a new skin to replace the current Blue3 would be good. I used Blue3 for all of 15mins when i first installed MP, but then downloaded other skins because they were better.

You have to look at the end user satisfaction, i think that they including this skin would be a huge improvement over the current one.

As it stands MP is reaching its limits of what can be done (GUI), so until MP2 comes out we need the best looking skin for the users. XBMC is already better in the area of config (can be done while program is running).

The idea still of using a smallish default MP1 download and then expanding by the use of skins\plugins to get the look\functionality you wish for, is still by far the best option, this has been thoroughly discussed previously between MPDevs and plugin\skin creators, which both parties agreed to keep things seperate as they are now.

MP2 may well have a different outlook on this, as it will be more automated\user friendly from the start, and allow these plugins\skins to be downloaded\enabled right from the start after installation and during first run configuration, which is similar to how xbmc does things.
