Yes, I have tried the second script "ForceFocusOnMPAfter5Sec.exe" and it works beautifully....

Thank you very much for solving such an annoyingly intermittent problem. Now, whenever I use my MCE remote, MediaPortal always responds to the green button, and to all the other buttons...... :wink:

If any of you still have MP running and loosing the focus it's because you want to! Grab one of those exe (the most suitable to your needs) and get it fixed!

I wish I could find some more spare time to help out to find the origin of the problem in MP code and fix it properly, but by now it is just no possible... I hate working!

Sometimes (most times actually) when I start MP using mptray, MP comes up but is not in the foreground. So I press remote keys and nothing happens. If I VNC in and click anywhere on the screen, then the remote (and MP) works fine. I already have 'MP always on top' selected in the setup. Is there something else I need to set, or maybe is 'always on top' not working?

I finally have my HTPC resuming from standby (S3) properly using MCE 2005 remote, that’s another story.

However, 50% of the time (after resume from standby) the remote wont control MP.

I don’t use 'mptray' as MP is always running. If I wait for a while (5 mins) sometimes the remote regains control.

I can vnc to the HTPC and control MP, so its running ok, clicking on the screen makes the remote regain control again.

Is this the same focus issue?

i looked again at this last night...

this isnt true. if i vnc in and click the screen the remote does NOT regain control.

the ehome remote driver is correclty displayed in the device manager. and the recievers led flashes red when i send a command. NOTE: i am not using the original MCS remote but the logitech harmony 525.

in fact the only way for it to regain control is if i unplug the usb reciever and plug it back in again.

Please help me!

hey jackleather,

it looks that you have problems with MP loosing the focus... try one of the scripts i wrote. i think AutoFocusOnMP.exe will work better for you since you do not have to close MP to regain the focus...

read my posts for more info on both scripts.

it looks as well that you have problems with your remote drivers. try to find a newer driver version, it might help.

anyway, if you have any problem with MP loosing the focus, just try my scripts!

Hi peeps

I am experiencing the same problem, MP loses focus after an MPTray start, i have to press 'back' to enable me to navigate.

However... I disabled all the nView startup items in msconfig > startup after reading elsewhere that nView could be stealing focus when using dualview, and for now this seems to have fixed it, at least for a fresh MPTray start anyway, if i quit MP and go straight back in, again i lose focus, maybe it is because MP is still in memory ???

For me this was the sollution!
Try replacementdriver. It has a tray that loads on startup. But this one allways give's me focus on mediaportal startup. You can find the latest version here:

Based on your recommendation, I tried installing the MCE Replacement Plug-In, Driver & Tray. In fact, it works better than MPtray, as far as giving MP focus after start is concerned. Unfortunately, I had a number of strange side effects:
My (RF) keyboard commands (for my music, my pictures, etc.) stopped working. The documentation says that in the case of IR keyboards, this would be casued by the replacement driver, so I followed the instructions for deinstalling it, but that didn't solve the problem.
Instead, I now have the problem of double keypresses, which the documentation says will occur if the replacement driver is not used and can be eliminated by clearing the default configuration. Unfortunately, the documentation doesn't say how to invoke the configuration program, and I haven't found it in the start menu.
Interestingly enough the Green Button still works to launch MP, so I guess the replacement driver isn't needed for this.
Lastly, my remote control power button hasn't worked correctly since installing the MCE Replacement Plug-In, with or without the replacement driver.

P.S. I got this working for a while with the standard driver, disabling the MCE Replacement Plug-In and just using the MPTray supplied with the MCE Replacement Plug-In. Then today, I started to have problems with focus again. I turned off the MP built-in support for MCE, turned on the Replacement Plug-In and removed the MCE Remote mappings. At first, this seemed to "heal" the focus problems. The MS taskbar still showed in the foreground, but at least MP responded to the remote. Then I started having the focus problem again, even with the MCE Replacement Plug-In enabled! Go figure!
With the MCE Plug-In I am still getting double button-presses, as well as unintentional activation of other programs (probably a result of the mouse functions). I guess I'll try one of the other solutions discussed in this thread.

P.P.S. Now, with MCE Replacement Plug-In disabled, native MP support for MCE remote enabled and the MPtray from the MCE Replacement Plug-In installed, the beahviour is back to what I would expect!

I think i'll have to try the replacement driver as well. MPtray does work, but loses focus sometimes. When I press Live TV or some other buttons and then okay or right arrow, it usually regains focus and I can play with it again. However the mouse cursor isn't hidden when I do that, so that's a bit annoying.

Also when using the tv power button to minimize to tray(in general settings), the tray icon doesn't always show.
