Synopsis:: MCE remote and MCE keyboard buttons not working.

http://mp.pastebin.com/674676

The keyboard is genuine Microsoft and remote and receiver are Euro MCE copys [teletex buttons] made by Mitsumi. I never had any problems with XP MCE2005 or MP untill RC3 svn 4-15-2006.

RC3 svn 4-14-2006 14-32/ Working

RC3 svn 4-15-2006 22-41/ My Music, Radio, Pictures and Videos buttons stop working.

RC3 svn 4-16-2006 19-13/ Green button dead.

RC3 svn 4-18-2006 10-31/ All MCE buttons stopped working.

I've tried clean MP installs on both XP2005 pro and MCE2005 with the same results. I'm thinking of buying a genuine MCE remote/receiver to see if it fixes the problem.

Even stuck back at svn 4-14-2006 I still pefer MP over MCE anyday.

Thanks :)

I have added your receiver to the list. If it is a real Microsoft certified MCE receiver, it should work. Please try this SVN build. Earlier builds do not contain this change, of course.

Synopsis::

I've got the same Problem.
MCE Remote worked fin in RC3 in RC4 only OK and the 4 "direction" buttons work.
I use the MCE remote that came with this case:
http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view.asp?idx=184&code=029

Code:
22.04.2006 13:57:47 MCE: Init
22.04.2006 13:57:47 MAP: using default mappings for Microsoft MCE
22.04.2006 13:57:47 Device: \\?\hid#vid_045e&pid_0040#6&296185d6&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}
22.04.2006 13:57:47 MCE: MCE remote enabled
22.04.2006 13:57:47 running...

Copied the files from your SVN build over but no luck.

Thanx mPod for the quick reply!! :D

I've copied the files over from the build you posted but part of the buttons still don't work. (play, stop, forward, backward, menu back...) These buttons worked in RC3.

Here is what I got now in the log file:
Code:
22.04.2006 19:37:31 MCE: Init
22.04.2006 19:37:31 MAP: using default mappings for Microsoft MCE

22.04.2006 19:37:31 Remote.Init: Failed to open remote (5)
22.04.2006 19:37:31 MCE: MCE remote enabled

BugsBunny, looks like it needs some more intense work. As a workaround you can turn off MCE remote and enable HID in configuration.exe. That's almost the same code RC3 was using, so it should work for your receiver. The MCE support in RC4 and later uses new code that supports Microsoft certified receivers only, as it seems. Basically it uses the same code as the mptray helper app once coded by Smirnuff used.

Did you have to install a driver for your remote to work at all or does XP natively support it? If you had to install a driver, we have a problem here, cause the native MCE support in RC4 and later uses native XP stuff and does not support any 3rd party drivers.

Please have some patience, it could take some more time to get other (not certified) MCE-like remotes supported natively again. Until then, use HID support (configuration.exe). Pls report back if that plays a bit better with your Zalman receiver, or maybe needs some more adjustments.

One more thing: How is the receiver connected with the mainboard? Is it connected to a USB port? I'm worried about the fact that you got only 1 entry in MediaPortal.log... What other USB devices are connected?

Thanks mPod!
I turned of MCE and enabled HID but the buttons that work/don't work are the same as with MCE enabled. :(

I'm not using XP - I use w2k, it's not that bloated. I did have to install a driver for the USB remote.

My mainboard has 2 external and 2 internal USB 1.1 conectors (Via).
The remote control is connected to an internal USB 1.1 port. The other 3 USB 1.1 ports are not used.
Then I have got a PCI USB2.0/Firewire card. The USB 2.0 ports form the PCI card I do use for an internal cardreader an 2 USB conectors located in the front of the Zalman case.

I only hope that I can get Media Portal working somehow with my config...
I like MP very much and think that it's the best mediacenter (ease of use/configurability/looks).
Because my other problem is getting my KNC1 DVB-C card working where I'm having problems getting the BDA drivers working.
Sceneo tvcentral seems to work but I would prefer MP a 1000 times.
