:D

I think I'll start with the Keyboard Input Plugin (MEDIAPORTAL - free media center - KeyboardInputPlugin). I suspect this will be enough to get my remote working.

If that fails, I'll try investigating the more complex options like Event Ghost...

Cheers,

David

that link uses the same plug-in, its just gives extra info you will find helpful ;)

I see what you mean... the Keyboard Input Plugin seems to recognize a few of the buttons on my remote, but it doesn't recognize many of the important ones (like 'Play', 'Pause' and 'Record').

Is there a remote that I can buy that will 'just work' with Media Portal, or am I best to continue trying to get my Emprex Vista MCE Remote Controller to work?

the hauppauge ones pretty much just go but even they may need a little tweek.
stick with what you have and give it a go, remotes are like wine eveyone has a favorite that someone else hates i've got through 4 now and still not happy.
would have stuck with the haup but due to usb probs with the tv card it make the system unstable

It really frustrates me that this is so difficult, when everything else in MediaPortal seems so easy! I thought that by buying a remote that required no special drivers (but just appeared like another keyboard to Windows) it would be trivial for MediaPortal to pick up the keys - but it seems that some of the important keys just aren't seen. I guess this is an XP thing, but people seem to be having trouble with Vista and Windows 7 too.

I haven't tried the Event Ghost option yet, but this does seem an overly-complicated way to make Play, Pause and Record buttons work in a piece of media centre software! :)

I recently bought HP branded MCE Remote / Receiver / Blaster from ebay. There are a lot of ebay sellers selling this MCE compatible remote combo. Quite cheap about $17USD incl postage. When the USB receiver is pluged into XP Pro SP3, windows automatically recognises it and installs the eHome USB Driver. Then if i tick use MCE remote in mediaportal configuration all the buttons work straight away. Note - I couldn't get the blaster or remote to work with IRSS, however the blaster does work with LMREMOTE. If you have standard version of XP (ie not XP Pro or XP MCE) then it will not automatically install the drivers.

Same problem everyone else is reporting in Win 7. Play, FF RR, Stop all do nothing, even went into the advanced settings and made sure the buttons were mapped to the correct action. Arrow keys & number keys do work, so I can start a movie but not stop or pause it. I do not think this problem we are having is due to the remote or receiver, all the buttons function correctly in Windows Media Center and in my old HTPC program TVedia, also running on Win 7. I will try the keyboard plugin and see how that works for now.

Possibly using autohotkey scripting, use #keyboardhook, and view the scripting debug window to see if it detects the keys, if so you can remap them to keystrokes for mediaportal.

I have exactly the same problem. I was using windows vista x86 before and all the buttons on my microsoft mce remote worked fine.

Now I'm using Windows 7 64 bits and buttons like stop, pause, etc, etc doesn't work at all.

It seems a problem with the 64 bits drivers.

My remote it's the microsoft mce v2:

    Any solution?

    hi

    i'm using windows 7 64 bit
together with ms MCE. ("model: 1039"; "RC6ir").
Its exactly the same remote as the 2nd picture in remote config menu, when you select mce family

everything works. pause and stop, too
i didnt installed anything. just plugged the IR in and started after auto config
i cant test EPG, tv recordings, and live tv because i dont watch tv / have no tv card inside.

but there is still the "Dvd menu" button.
if i put in a dvd, the "DVD menu" button brings up dvd menu and works fine.
so i guess, rest would work, if i would set up tv configuration
