well, originally I used a special xp install disk, but that had so many problems that I borrowed my friends one and did a clean install, I used a tool to make this genuine, only because it would not accept the CD key I have from my laptop (which worked many times before).

hmm, well then... I don't really want to reinstall again, you think this can be fixed without all that?

It's a PITA I know. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

No one seems to know why this problem occur. I just shared my experience on how I got it working.
It would be great to find out what the problem really is.

What a shame, I used media portal for a long time but I don't think it's worth a clean install just to get that one program working, everything else works so I am just going to wait until windows 7 before I clean install again.
