I know mine spins down because it is in a cupboard in the room (so I can hear the drives spin up)
Iam also using an older version of the qnap firmware due to the spin down NOT working on some of the later versions

I did also have some problems with the Qnap not spinning down, the problem was not the Qnap itself but related to my MP TV server running 24/7. As long as the TV Server (Win XP) was running the Qnap did not sping down. I then disabled NetBios over TCP/IP for the MP TV server, and then the Qnap spun down as it should.

The MP TV server now run Win 7 x64, and does not interfere with the Qnap.

Did you try TCPView to see current connections?

No , why would I need to use tcpview ?
The problem is some change in the code in mediaportal validating folders locations etc
This problem only surfaced 2 versions ago

Any chance of some input from a dev ?

TCPView is always good when troubleshooting network related stuff.

An observation, MP is both started and up and running here before my Qnap has spun up the disks...

A long shot, try to disable loading of Playlists at MP startup; Music - MediaPortal Wiki

Hmmm , so your PC is off , you switch it on , it boots , loads windows , starts media portal and media portal loads successfully while
your Qnap discs are spun down ?

No offense but this "feature" was added 2 releases ago , hunting down imaginary problems with my network
is a poor use of my time

Well, my PC was actually ON but the QNAP was idle. I started MP, and MP was started before the QNAP was fully up and running.

    If I were you I would double check the playlists. From your logs;
    2011-12-16 20:17:17.320312 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: GUIMusicPlaylist: Loading default playlist default.m3u
    2011-12-16 20:17:17.322265 [Info.][(6)]: Playlist: Skipping non-existing Playlist file: C:\Users\ss.pc7\Documents\My Playlists\default.m3u
    ..
    loong wait
    ..
    2011-12-16 20:17:53.320312 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: GUIMusicPlaylist: Default Playlist loaded

From my logs loading of playlist take about 2s. Don't know what MP is doing if the default playlist can't be loaded...

Nope , changed location to valid folder

Media portal is still waiting on the shared folders being available
