    Basically what's happening is I'll try to play a SD, 4:3 content file, and MediaPortal thinks it's 16:9. Thus, Stretch and Non-Linear stretch have no effect. IFC works, but I'm plagued by the frame skipping problems there, so I've given up and turned that off. Interestingly, MP-TV series and others seem to decode 4:3 vs 16:9 with no issues.

    Below is a log snip from an example. Note that I've already tried upgrading MediaInfo.dll to the latest and greatest, with no avail.

    bump. Any chance I can get someone to look into this? Still having this issue after upgrading to 1.2.0 final. I did upgrade to the latest MediaInfo.dll again (0.7.5) but still the issue persists.

    Logs are the same as before. Below is another log snippet, along with the output of MediaInfo on the same file. Looking at the code for MediaInfoWrapper, it *should* do the right thing here. The only issue I can see is since we're doing an exact match, if for some reason the wrapper saw " 4:3" or "4:3 " or any variation thereof, it would default to widescreen. I also notice the line of code has a space between Display and AspectRatio. The output from MediaInfo does not seem to have this.

    WebSVN - MediaPortal - Rev 28083 - /trunk/mediaportal/Core/Player/MediaInfoWrapper.cs

    Code:
         _aspectRatio = _mI.Get(StreamKind.Video, 0, "Display AspectRatio") == "4:3" ? "fullscreen" : "widescreen";

    I tried rolling back MediaInfo to an older version and it's no different.

    Hi mcmanuss8

    I'm amazed that you've been so patient with us - *thank you* :D
    Personally I don't know this code at all but it looks relatively simple to debug. Can you please try the attached Core.dll and we'll see the raw information MediaPortal is actually getting from MediaInfo:

    1. Close MP.
    2. Take a backup of the existing Core.dll in your MP install folder.
    3. Download and extract the attached Core.dll into your MP install folder.
    4. Find the "debug mode" link in the "Team MediaPortal" folder in your start menu.
    5. Start it.
    6. Select option 1 "report a bug".
    7. Click proceed - this will start MP in debug mode (default skin, all plugins disabled).
    8. Attempt to play a video that causes this problem.
    9. Stop playback after 10 seconds or so.
    10. Close MP - this will trigger the tool to create a zip file with all the relevant logs.
    11. Post the zip file here.

    Just a quick thought: I wonder if the file has multiple video streams for some reason. Anyhow let's see what the logs say...

    PS: we prefer you to use "the watchdog" tool as described above when providing logs. It should provide all the details we need to be able to help you. Documentation for the tool is in our wiki -->here<--.

    As a quick note. MediaInfo provided information is not used by the actual playback graph. There the aspect ration information comes from the renderer / codec.

    mcmanuss8: have you had a chance to test? Should be about a 10 minute job...
    tourettes: so if that is the case then the remedy would be to use either a different splitter or a different codec?

    @mcmanuss8: have you had a chance to test? Should be about a 10 minute job...

    Have not had a chance yet - haven't had a wife-free night to take down the HTPC and muck with it. If she's around and I start to play with it, I get yelled at for "breaking things" :rolleyes: Soon as I get a chance to test, I'll post back here.

    Based on tourettes's info, though, I may be looking at a red herring. I'll still do the test, since we should obviously squash all bugs, but I doubt it's the one causing my issue.

    I'm using PowerDVD codecs to play things back, so I'll also try using a different decoder and see if the problem persists. If so, the issue is likely with the splitter (or something else).

    Thanks!

    Ok here we go. See attached. Let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to try.
    Thanks!

    Hi again

    Thanks for doing that. :D

    According to the logs:

    2011-09-30 22:53:47.923623 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: debug: ar (space) is ""
    2011-09-30 22:53:47.924623 [Info.][MPMain(1)]: debug: ar (no-space) is "1.333"

    So with that clip and that version of MediaInfo the code should be:

    Code:
    _aspectRatio = _mI.Get(StreamKind.Video, 0, "DisplayAspectRatio") == "1.333" ? "fullscreen" : "widescreen";

    I don't know whether Tourettes is right (but he probably is since he has *way* more experience in this code than me! :D). What I do know is that the aspect ratio retrieved from MediaInfo is used in one place:

    Code:
    GUIPropertyManager.SetProperty("#Play.Current.AspectRatio", g_Player.MediaInfo.AspectRatio);

    That *seems* fairly important to me. Perhaps there is something that needs to be investigated here.

    tourettes: what do you think?

    Property is used for skin to show mediainfo images (when you press Y while playing videos you will see some mediainfo for current video like Audio/Video codec, resolution, AR..))

    Right, and it shows SD 16:9 when I press Y, even though it's clearly SD 4:3. Ok, so it sounds like MediaInfo probably isn't the issue causing Stretch not to work.

    What other things can I try to isolate/fix the issue?
