MediaPortal 2 launches to black/blank screen (1 Viewer)

I just installed MediaPortal 2 (server and client on the same machine). When I launch the client, I get a black/blank screen. I rebooted, and can use ALT+ENTER to go from full screen to windowed, but the issue persists. When I move the mouse around, I can hear little blips that must be part of the interface, so I know that it's not freezing.

Any ideas?

My system: Windows 8.1 x64, GeForce GTX 650 Ti (latest official drivers)

You need to have DX9 installed even on your Win 8.1 system. Without this the rendering didn't work.

I have exactly the same issue having just completed a fresh install of MediaPortal 2 on a new HTPC which has DirectX11 - do I need to install DirectX9 as well? Googling seems to suggest that version 11 supersedes version 9 and should be backwards compatible.

Probably should be... But it isn't...
Installing DX9 on your System didn't hurt your DX11, so no need to worry...

Thank you - I will try installing DX9 later tonight/tomorrow, hopefully it works

It might be worth updating this page of the wiki to state that DirectX 9 is required even if you already have a later version installed.

No problem - it reads slightly more clearly in English as:

"DX9 is always necessary, even if a higher DirectX version (e.g. DX11) already exists on your system."
