So technically there is nothing wrong with the setup
Yes there IS something wrong with your setup, as MediaPortal cannot recognise your TV card... :?

Now, do you want to argue about it, or do you want us to help you to find out what is wrong, and help you to fix it?

So please tell me what needs to be done so Mediaportal can see my TV card.

Normally, what you have already done is sufficient....

So, we need to find out what is missing or wrong.

    Please do the following:-

    Run MediaPortal Configuration
Go to Televison > Capture Cards > Add
I assume you will get the message here about no cards to add?
    Exit MP Configuration
Post the MediaPortal.log file at mp.pastebin.com

I am guessing that the Device ID of your card is different to the Device ID in the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file. You can check this by searching the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file for your card, and then comparing the Device ID with what should be listed in the MediaPortal.log file from the above steps.

I did what you asked and posted the log to : http://mp.pastebin.com/698861

Compared the xml file with the log but could not find what to compare. Can you guide me in that ?

I also noticed the driver name in device manager is
Winfast TV2000 XP Expert WDM Crossbar for Aopen
Winfast TV2000 XP Expert WDM TVTuner for AOpen(pal)
Winfast TV2000 XP Expert WDM Video Capture for AOpen(pal)

Could this mean a 'custom' driver is used that is not recognised by MP ? I could find the XP Expert card in the XML, but not with the notion 'for AOpen'

This looks like it is a log from when you ran MediaPortal itself - I asked that you run MP Configuration, so we could see if your TV card was identified at all when you tried to configure a TV card.

Anyway, this particular log shows some errors - have a look at lines 26, 55, 63 and 66. These errors could point to the source of your problem....you will need to do some investigation and fix these errors. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but the errors may relate to the way you have installed MediaPortal on your "I" drive?

I think I did run MP Configurator , but could not find a log file.

Can you tell me exactly what steps I need to take adn where I can then find the log ?

Run Setup, go to Television section, and then to Capture cards, press Add and after you get the message saying that there is no card detected, exit the program and open file explorer, navigate to folder where you have MP installed and open log folder, copy the text into MediaPortal.log and paste it as Taipan requested... that's all. Use the latest SVN build for RC4 before doing the test.... i hope that this can help you...

ok found the log. I put it here :
    http://mp.pastebin.com/701023

    Anybody seeing what's wrong ?

The log seems to indicate my tv card is 'seen' just prior I get the message no card found, doesn't it ?

Yes, as I suspected, the DeviceID of your TV card (ven_14f1&dev_8800&subsys_6f05a0a0&rev_05) is not listed in the CaptureCardDefinitions.xml file. Hence, MediaPortal cannot recognise it - see line 229 of the log file.

    Try this:-

Open your CaptureCardDefinitions.xml with NotePad, and search for this text:-

    ven_14f1&dev_8800&subsys_6f08107d&rev_05

and replace it with this text:-

    ven_14f1&dev_8800&subsys_6f05a0a0&rev_05

then save the modified file and run MP Configuration again - this time it should recognise your TV card and allow you to configure it... :)

Let us know how you go...
