I have a similar problem with a 30sec delay while showing the "Initializing input devices" banner on startup. I use IRSS for remote control and wonder if this is part of the reason. Any help with this would be appreciated as i used to enjoy a fast startup time with mediaportal!

Code:

AW: MediaPortal hangs on "Initializing input devices"

    Hello Cas,

I'm not sure whether You have the same root cause. If You look at the logfiles in previous posts You see that the 'hang' occurs after the logline saying
    Code:
    [Info.][FilterChecker]: FilterChecker: Version of installed quartz.dll: 6.5.2600.5596
And most people seem to have a 2 min hang (i.s.o. a 30 sec hang like You posted).

I still live with this problem. It's still sporadic and I have no idea what it depends on. As a workaround I try to exit MP as seldom as possible. As hibernation and resume works quite well here, I learned to live with the problem.

    Good luck

I'm experiencing the same thing. ~2min hang after quartz.dll.

    No solution for this?

I've got the same problem, too.

I chose the same solution as milagroso. Since the remote works after a restart or stand-by. It's just annoying while configurating of media portal.

I also got this problem. After reboot or resume no problem. But sometimes (don't know what triggers it) after starting MP for the second, third... time, it hangs indefinitely on "Initializing Input Devices".
Nothing to be found in the logs about what is causing the crash. So what can it be?

    Fixed!

At least for me- I used to have an x10 style remote which I have disconnected. However, the driver (and X10 service) are still installed. Removing the service has greatly sped up the Initializing Input Devices and total startup for me.

Don't have a X10 remote and no software installed either. I use a 'clean' Windows 7 64 Ultimate install, with a Hauppauge 2200 HVR card including remote. So it is not only caused by X10 drivers.

I think I declared success a little too soon. Mediaportal itself appears to depend on X10 drivers in order to look for possible X10 remotes. When I uninstalled the X10 drivers completely, MP and MP Configuration crashed both looking for the X10 drivers. Once I re-installed them, everything was okay. However, the delay seems to be if the X10 service is running. It looks like it must be manually started, and I don't know what is starting the service, but once I disabled just the service (and left X10 installed) my startup time went from 2+ minutes to 15 seconds.

This time it hangs on Loading plugins. But for the rest it seems the same. PC was in hibernate and powered on by remote. If I kill the MP process and start it again, the same thing happens. I have attached logfiles of one of those tries.
