I have the "Use External Player" checked with path & parameters defined under the "DVD Discs/Images Player" section of "DVD Discs/Images" in the Mediaportal Configuration; however, Mediaportal continues to use Internal player. It ignores the external player reference.

I have the same external player reference setup in MovingPictures and everything works fine; I literally copied & pasted the path/parameter. Disc images play in ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 6 if I play anything via MovingPictures.

However, these DVD's are for TV Shows (For which I use MP-TVSeries); for which I have to define External Player use via the Mediaportal Configuration as MP-TVSeries does not have an internal command to use External Player like MovingPictures.

Any advice?

    Hello :)

I can't believe no one's had this issue.
Well, I have never used external players at all, and I'd hazard to guess I'm not alone.
In any case, please use the watchdog to reproduce the problem and post logs so we can confirm exactly what is happening.

PS: log files are always expected for threads like this...

    MM,

Thanks for chiming in. Log files are attached.

As I stated above; I have the external player defined in the DVD Discs/Images section of Mediaportal Configuration, however it's still using the internal player - as it did in this case.
    Thanks.

Hmmm, there's nothing obvious in the log files to suggest that MP even attempts or thinks it needs to use an external player for this scenario.

The file type and where/how you attempt to play files makes a big difference.
Can you confirm exactly how you're triggering the ISO: is it from the videos section, or via the play disc menu choice?
I suspect it is via the videos section. I further suspect that if you were to attempt to play the ISO via the play disc link (ie. after mounting the disc externally or inserting a real DVD) MP would use the external player.

    Your configuration says:

    ...

yes

    ...

    ...

no

    ...

In other words, when you use the video section you'll get the internal player, and when you use the play disc menu option you won't.

luci5r, just wondering if you've made any progress with this issue. I'm having pretty much exactly the same problem. I use Moving Pictures for my movies, selecting a bluray starts up TMT no problem. selecting a dvd starts the internal player. I have the external defined same as you. I know I did have it working at one point but that was back in V1.1 or so.

    Absolutely not.

If you Google it, you'll find this was a Bug that was reported in an earlier version of MediaPortal. It was identified and supposedly fixed; however, it is broke again. MediaPortal does not respect "External Player" for DVD's. It continues to use internal player no matter what you define.

My feeling is that the bug was fixed and then broke again when a newer version was released; and has been broken since. This is something that actually happened with a feature in TotalMedia Theatre. A known & reported bug was fixed in a minor release but was broken again in a major release & stayed broken for many versions until it was finally fixed again.

I'm not sure how to report this as an official bug to the Developer's, but I'd like to.

    No response to my post?

If attempting to play DVD rips stored in folders with an external player, this patch might help:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/external-player.125389/page-2#post-1074354

Please report your results in that thread.

MM ... I don't think I received a notification for your post; completely skipped over.

These are actually ISO images, not folder structures. Also, these are TV Shows, so essentially I'm using MP-TVSeries to fire these ISO's.

luci5r, what you say makes sense. The last time it was working perfectly was a few years ago and IIRC was using 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 or something and using TMT2. I've came back to it from time to time to get it working with newer versions with little to no success. Sort of glad to hear it was a persistent bug - in the sense that it wasn't entirely my uselessness that kept it from working. Really surprised though the bug has made it this far but I think most DL their movies and store them as mkv's (or equiv.) rather then straight up rips from originals in native format so it's probably not a problem that pops up often. Glad to see it's getting some attention now!

mm, thanks for the link. I see there you have a link to DL core.dll rather than a patch, do I just replace the stock core.dll with this version?
