I also am seeing the exact same issue and same error message. Also have MPextended 0.5.1 installed. I don't believe this was happening when I had the previous version installed but I cannot be sure. Can anyone confirm this is caused by MPextended and next how do we go about getting it fixed?

I uninstalled it and still have the crashes so I don't think its that. I guess as its not stopping MP running its classed as low priority.
Ok so this is not easy to replicate. I played around with Process Monitor and I finally managed to catch the crash while monitoring C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\MediaPortal.xml.
From what I can tell it is MPExtended accessing the file, but I can't explain why it only happens sometimes and not all the time.
