MediaPortal without Lan connection (1 Viewer)

With the loopback and the IP change now I can see tv and schedule records when the other computer I have in the net is off.

The problem now is I don't know how can I see TV from the client I have in this second PC, I mean when the LAN is on.

In MP TV server configuration the IP I have in the streaming settings is the IP of the Loopback device. That way the HTPC can stream live tv with the LAN off.

But then, how can it stream TV to the client PC when the LAN is on? Do I have alwaya to change the IP in the streaming settings if I want to see TV from another PC in the net? Or is there a trick or some easier way?

For a multi-seat system you need to have a fixed IP address for the TV-server which on the same LAN 'subnet' as the clients - so you can't use the loopback adaptor for this, it has to be a real LAN connection.

Is this a wired or wireless network ?

If your LAN is just 2 PC's (no router or switch) it might be easiest just to add a router or switch to the LAN which is always on - that way the TV-server PC will have a real LAN connection with a valid IP address at all times (the connection won't disappear when the other PC is turned off)

That’s what I thought. Thank you for answering.

It is a wired network with a router and 4 computers.

So, I think that if I want to see TV and schedule recordings that work when the LAN and router are off I have to use the loopback system, and if I want to see TV from another computer I have to change the IP address in TV server configuration.

I don’t know if I could create a bat file with commands or something to change the IP in the streaming settings without needing to open each time the TV Server configuration in the HTPC.

It's much easier just to leave the router turned on and the TV-server PC set to a fixed IP address (i.e. not using DHCP).....

You could maybe set both the LAN card and loopback adaptor to the same IP address but only enable one at a time using 'devcon' commands in batch files - see The DevCon command-line utility functions as an alternative to Device Manager

Thank you! That’s what I was looking for.

As a matter of fact I know well the devcon command because I use it to disable and enable my Skystar card on suspend and resume respectively, in order not to get blue screens.

You’re right that’s easier not to get the router off, but I usually get it off at nights or when I’m out of home for several days. That’s when I need the loopback adaptor, for the HTPC to wake up and record some scheduled program when the LAN is off.

So, that’s a good idea, to keep the adaptor and the LAN card with the same IP address. I can use always these two commands when I get off the computer I have in my room, that’s also when I get the router off:

devcon disable PCI\VEN_14E4*
devcon enable *msloop

and that way the HTPC would be free from the LAN tyranny.

I just can run the command in the same HTPC or, in order to automatize the thing, trying to run the command from my PC, before getting it off, but I don’t know if you can run commands on LAN.
