Hi,
I'm a MP newby. I just installed MediaSlayer (in MP 1.02). At first I couldn't find how to start MediaSlayer, then I realised it starts automatically when you insert a CD (this could be explained for newbies). Then it hangs :-(

Anything I should check? I'm running WinXP Pro SP3.

TIA

is there an list of possible naming tags for the ripped CD's except :"#ARTIST;#ALBUM;#NBR;#TRACK"?

    That's all. Is something missing?

Pretty awesome; not having the ability to rip to flac would have killed mediaportal's usefulness to me, so I am very glad to see this plugin, as I very much like mp itself.

I have one request however; would it be possible to make the tags applied to the files user-editable? The first album I tried to rip had no results in the freedb database, and as such as added as unknown artist-unknown album, etc. This really is not sufficcient for my purposes. I can edit the tags later in another program, but for an htpc I'd really like to keep everything confined to mediaportal if possible. Just being able to edit album title, artist, and track titles would be good enough, though I'd like to be able to edit year and genre too. (Album art would need to be refreshed after an edit, too.)

Not sure if this is completely realistic but it seems like it shouldn't be too hard to just pop up a box to edit the information in if you click the text, or something.

Thanks for taking the time to make this plugin to all involved; it has made mediaportal much more useful to me. :]

    Hi,
maybe the MPTagThat tool can fit to your needs. It's not integrated into MPs surface as it's a standalone tool, but does an awsome job in tagging MP3s nearly fully automatic. It can even recognize untagged MP3s by a fingerprint search on the internet and then fill the tag fields automagically.

I actually have already seen it, and I like it. I'm considering trying to make that work from MP one way or another, but I'd really like something integrated into the ripping tool, rather than the separate program.

I am also considering just using it for ripping since I can see it supports flac as well. The issue I have with it is it's too busy. If I go through with the htpc project I want to I'll be working mediaportal off of a very small screen and a program with that much stuff there would be hard to work with.

I might also just use EAC for ripping. It won't be all that pretty, but it will probably do the best job of it.

I just thought it might be a nice feature to have built into mediaslayer that would not be overly hard to implent, and moreover it'd be one that would make the program close to perfect for my needs.

Thank you for the suggestion though; I appreciate it.

All of you struckling with mencoder ripping follow this. Note that some steps are meant for one time checking only just to make sure everything is correctly set up.

    Steps:
#1 Install AnyDVD. This is very important as mencoder can only handle css and nothing else. Trial version can be used to try encoding. Do not select 'Remove annoying adverts and trailers' in DVD navigation settings.

#2 Install mplayer and mencoder to same folder. Mplayer is needed to detect crop settings. Link can be found from first post.

#3 MediaSlayer plugin settings for mencoder can be left to default. Select advanced GUI and disable cover art grabbing. Check your drive selection.

#4 Enable debug mode for logs from MP configuration (general - log verbosity: debug).

#5 Insert normal movie DVD, not series, to drive and check from AnyDVD status that it is correctly detected and decrypted.

#6 Start MP and go to MediaSlayer

#7 Click start ripping button. All should go fine till end now. If ripping is stopped with error continue with next steps.

    #8 Open MediaPortal.log and find line starting with: MediaSlayer (Mpeg4-args): dvd://3 -dvd-device G:\ -sws 2 -oac copy...

#9 Copy that line from dvd://... to end

#10 Open command prompt and change path to mencoder folder

#11 Type mencoder and paste that argument line and hit return.

#12 Notice error and fix it.
