For those who leave the application open and do not often reboot their PC's etc etc etc then they may become aware of a memory leakage or just attribute it to their PC "just needing to reboot".

Thats the most common use case in HTPCs :) MediaPortal is no closed between S3 states and the user can have same instance running for a month.

Memory leak is just a bug like crash. It is just bad & smelly code :)

In case it's useful, attached is the newest version of the MPC-HC 'MPCVideoDec.ax' filter that I have on my system (rev 982) - unfortunately http://www.xvidvideo.ru/ is down at the moment (the normal source of the latest, cutting-edge MPC-HC builds/changelogs).

Might be worth a try in case the issue has been fixed since rev 908.

Of course I agree with you tourettes :)

I just wonder how many people use either the filter and or media player classic and then attribute the memory retention as being attributed to the filter and not something else within their system..?

Still, hopefully, this thread will, if noted, make more people aware of the problem and hopefully through the good work of damaster in bringing up the issue and the devs of the filter the memory retention issue might get resolved.

    EDIT:

@ Owlsroost - Using the filter that you provided still confirms that the memory retention increases and remains with the newer filter registered and stopping and starting the playing of a mkv movie several times, I used Media Player Classic to play the file. You can note each time the movie was stopped and then restarted due to the memory demands increasing at each step...

I was using the mpc codec for live tv (can't remember what ver), is it possible that this bug caused the issue I describe here?

I have since wiped the system and I'm in the process of rebuilding.

You might want to update your install guide to reflect the fixed version though.
