There's a sumthin' a strange agoin' on.
I copied across the database file from my main machine (the "source") to this new one (running Vista), then I erased it using the configuration's "Empty" button. I also copied across all the files in the thumbs directory to avoid re-downloading them.
Although all the episodes, series, and seasons are gone after the "empty", I think there's still some information left, and that information is causing problems.
The source machine was on RC4 and version 3251; the Vista machine is on 1.0 and version 3279. I also tried 3251 as well.
When I tried to re-import all my shows, it got through to where it says something about "retrieving Metadata for 112 series", then it "reboots" (the TVSeries banner appears suddenly and it says that it's finished). No amount of hitting "Start Import" gets past it. All the episodes are back in the database, but there's no information, no banners/artwork, etc. It simply refuses to try retrieving them. That's why I think there's still information in the database after the "Empty".
The only way past this is to delete the library file completely and run the importer from scratch. Then it goes through the normal process of getting banners, metadata, etc. - again, this tells me there's something in the first database that's stopping the importer from running a complete import.
I guess there's a trade-off on what to keep and what to erase, but I think there needs to be some override options for things like re-retrieving metadata and images.
It might seem to be a rare situation to have to run the importer completely, but I seem to need to do it quite often when the importer gets updates, bugs appear, or new versions of MP are released. Also, it might seem to be a strange, unsupported set of activities, but it's the same as if I'd simply updated from RC4 to MP 1.0 and kept my existing database.
Incidentally, on my source machine (running RC4 and 3251), I was unable to get it to retrieve banners for a couple of series that I'd recently acquired. It simply would never retrieve banners. I read the other threads on this, but couldn't find a solution. So I wonder if the problem is that there's some information within the database that tells the importer to not try getting the banners?
