Metro MP - Skin idea (3 Viewers)

I downloaded and tested Win8 Dev Preview yesterday, and got inspired. I imagine that the new Metro GUI of Windows 8 will be a good option for remote controls navigating inside of Windows, and also had an idea for how to make the experience match inside of MP. I made a quick mockup in PS, but i didn't put to much effort into it, using the wrong font and so on. I'm not a man for this job, but wanted to bring out my idea and see if it catches on. I'll also have to investigate Win8 more to find ways to make the whole experience seem like Metro, and not just the main menu.

Windows 8 Metro approach, would need a LOT of polish. Looks kinda childish maybe?

Not at the moment, haven't looked to much into it yet, and i will be gone for the weekend. I doubt that it would be practical to display each individual movie as a Metro Tile. But then again, i'll have to get more time with Win8 and MS' other Metro GUIs to fully understand their design, and figure out a way to make it work in MP

Cool project, but i suppose that project is in the far distant future? However, i posted that i want to exchange some ideas with hardcorehire in his thread. Hopefully, we could get something out of that

Hehe, maybe. We allready have aMPdroid for the Android OS, and maybe someone eventually develop a app for the MeeGo OS. But that's pretty far away from what i'm doodling with in here...

As of now, i'm just collecting some ideas and inspiration. I imagine that this kind of skin would require a program/generator for a home screen, as i am pretty sure that MP1's skin engine won't let us drag n' drop tiles around on the screen as in Win8. How much alike we can make the animations is another thing, however not a big deal i think. I will look more into this project next week, now i'm leaving for a weekend in Prague Have a great weekend, nerds of MP

Just a thought here, and I have no idea if it's possible with the skin-engine in MP:

How about making it more like the new Xbox dashboard (the same design will also going to show up in Windows 8)

That way you can have one screen for TV, one for Movies, one for Music etc

Under TV you could have tiles for Live TV, recordings, TV-guide etc

Yes, i wanted to look into the XBOX 360 dashboard as well to get some ideas. Has it been released yet? I do have a 360, but it's not in use very much, lol. Haven't updated it in ages...

I suppose a screen like that could be made. I'm no experienced skinner, but i believe we could use fanart as "spotlight" promo, and use release date and/or imdb-rate as priority data. I don't believe it would be hard to add a white font in the lower left corner on top of the fanart either, grabbing the moveis title from imdb.

I'll try to get some time and figure out some more ideas this week. But if this project is to be real, i'll need help with the skinning part, and not just a little

I did work a lot on some mockups with the XBOX metro theme in mind, but the computers nVidia drivers crashed, and gone was photoshop with no backup. However, i think the xbox metro is better suited for MediaPortal than the win8 metro look, and those two has a lot of differences. I will make some new mockups when i get the time, more towards the xbox metro look...
