Microsoft MCE Remote sending IR (1 Viewer)

Hi,

this is my first posting to this forum. So i first have to congratulate all related people to this fantastic piece of software. Since i know it, im step by step removing all other boxes from my livingroom

And here is my problem/question :

Im using the Microsoft Remote V2 to control my MediaPortal. Additionally im using a second remote to control a.e. my amp. Now i want to control the amp with MP too. The MS-Transceiver has 2 IR-LED´s for transmitting signals to external devices (such as the amp). Unfortunatly i dont know how to use them.

Has anybody some experiences using this under WinXPH, bestway inside MP ? Maybe there is a MyRemote-Plugin, which shows all external devices and theire functions ?

I think what your looking for is the myblaster plugin, see what's on the wiki or search myblaster.

Sadly the guy who started the MyBlaster plugin is really lazy so never added support for doing this kind of thing .

If you have some coding experience it is pretty easy to take the MyBlaster code and extend it to handle this kind of functionality.

Personally I am using the HIP software to control my plasma screen and my Yamaha amp. This way I could send rather complex commands like when pressing the green button I could switch on the Plasma and the amp, send the correct setting instruction to both and finally start MP if it is not started.

With HIP you program your remote keys by application (means that the same button could send different commands depending on running application, very useful if you run something else than MP). It makes it very flexible and user friendly IMHO.

The most difficult thing is to get the hardware to work. The IR blasters on the MCE remote seems to be very weak. I had to fix them right on the IR eye on respective unit. Even then I was forced to shield them from catching up IR noise from the plasma screen.

The next difficult thing was the IR learning, it took some experimenting to get it right. Search on HIP and MCE in the forum and you will find further advice in the tips and tricks section.

Hi all,
Personally I find the myBlaster solution the only way to do-it. I have tested Grinder and HIP but none of them is responding to MP Application’s events (or I'm wrong?). This means: if I program a recording from my Sat-tuner the MP application changes the Sat tuner to the selected channel.
The myBlaster (myBlaster_extra) works fine but is limited to the channel select buttoms (0-9 and Select). I got a source code in C# but this code is not working correctly, no remote code learning possible.
Looking into the source I find that all other remote buttons are represented and it seams easy to extend the code in order to take in consideration all remote buttons.
Perhaps i don’t have the "best-last" code?
Is there any future developing on that plug-in?

Sadly I lost the better code for mptray and MyBlaster a long time ago. After I left the project Scoop kindly took over maintaining and supporting MyBlaster so he's the guy who can best answer your question.

I would be very happy to see someone take it further; proper decoding of the signals and conversion to their respective protocol codes would result in a lot less problems for many users.

Smirnuff, I tough about it but I decided to focus on other areas (eg: Volume OSD and autoplay) since I don't know about the future of Blaster/External STBs with the new TV Engine.

As soon as Frodo releases the code/specs and tells the world how it designed and expects blasters to work, I'll propably take a look.

While I do miss coding for MP quite often, other interests and a big lack of time force the answer to a 'no I'm afraid not' .

You enjoy yourself with it and yeah application-wide Volume OSD gets my vote!
