Regarding the slideshow mod, Wish I knew more about programing, but when it comes to that i am useless. My understanding however, is that the author is in the process of updating it for version .2.3 stable. As it stands, i haven't been able to get it working using .2.3 stable, i thought that it may have been a skin related problem... guess we will have to wait for the update. Reading in the slideshow mod thread, it seems that the author may have released the mod while mediaportal was in a mod freeze and developers didn't integrate into the stable version, not sure now where the mod stands in terms of being integrated into further releases, if there are any???

I've seen screenshots of "shares" view, but never seen it anywhere in MediaPortal's setup or configuration. Not in the wiki either. Can someone please explain, what are shares and how can I use them?

Edit: Or are they networked drives?

By default when you go into the videos section of MP all the movie files that you have are displayed - these are your "movie shares". Movies are listed by title. As I said earlier by clicking the "Switch View" button you can get MP to display your movies by genre/actor or year etc. Click that button and see how MP changes the displaying of your movies. Shares are simply the files MP is "monitoring". Hope that helps....

Thing is the author may very well compile he's own version of MP so people can use this, the problem is that many people allready have a custom compiled version of MP, which make it a bit more complicated to get this thing integrated as well. I for one would much rather have my 'smart zoom' then a modified slideshow plugin. I don't know what kind of modified version Psycho Reptile is using, but it is effectivly disabling him from using that plugin(assuming it uses a modified core.dll or windowsplugins.dll)

Shares view displays the folders/drives you sat for scanning in the configuration.
Shares view only displays the actual "files" and no other data, like actors, genre, lenght etc..
When you switch to other views, (title, genre, favorites etc..) you access the mediaportal database.

I dont use the database in Mediaportal, as MP's IMDB grabbing sucks on large archives.
You very often get the wrong coverart or other data, and then need to edit manually.
Its the same for Music, and its a shame.

It is a _lot_ of work getting it done. Way more then it should be, hopefully Mp2 will handle this stuff better =) Anyways I did all that work, and its great once its done!

Nope, you can only see all that info when you are not in shares view. When in the movies screen click the button "Switch View", select anything except "Sahres" and you should see all that info .

With database info in shares view I would have no further need for the database at all, which is great because I have so much stuff that can't be shown in DB view.

I actually did this myself a while back, but I never got the data to update automatically on a new hover.
I had to enter the IMDB page, then back to get the data for the current highlighted movie...
Give me your code!

Wow looking great Is this done by only altering xml's? or do I need a code fix as well? I would REALLY like to have the xml stuff if I dont need any altered dll's

When are you planning on releasing the next version? I must admit I will probably do something similar with Xephyr as soon as I get my hands on the xml's
