    I'm having an odd issue using MediaPortal 1.1.0 and Windows 7. Sometimes I will leave my HTPC on and switch my video receiver from the input that my HTPC uses to the one that my cable box uses so I can watch cable TV. When I was running Vista and MP 1.0.2, I could switch back to the input that my HTPC uses without issue and continue using MP. However, when I switch back now, the resolution that MP runs at changes (MP only takes up half the screen instead of the full screen). I have MP running at fullscreen at 1280x720, and I can confirm that my desktop resolution does not change, but when switching video on the receiver and going back to the input my HTPC uses, no matter what MP's resolution changes. Has anyone else experienced this behavior?

    EDIT: Fixed...sort of. Read last post.

    Here is my MP log file.

    I notice this from the file:

    2009-09-28 15:45:39.185082 [Info.][MPMain]: fonts.Dispose()

    2009-09-28 15:45:39.186083 [Debug][MPMain]: fonts.InitializeDeviceObjects()

    Does this mean MP is switching to window mode when I go back to the HTPC input? And if so, how do I keep it at fullscreen?

    To add to this, if I keep a video running in MP and switch my video input over to another one and then back to the HTPC one, MP is still running, but it is minimized, and if I try to bring it back up, I just get a black screen and no sound. MP doesn't "freeze" per say though, as I can close it without forcing it down (by close I mean I right click on the Windows taskbar icon and choose close window and get no errors). Here is the log for that.

    EDIT: Scratch that - it doesn't minimize, it's just a black screen, and nothing will bring it out of that state (stopping video, hitting back, etc). I have to alt-tab to desktop so that I can close it.

    So I take it no one else has this issue. Can anyone tell me if they are able to switch between their A/V receiver ports and go back to their PC one without issue?

    It's an ATI card, 4850 with latest CAT drivers. I'm trying to narrow down the cause of the issue. I think it's safe to say it isn't caused by Windows 7, so I'm now rolling back CAT drivers to what I used in Vista. I'm also reinstalling MP if that doesn't work. At first I thought this might be caused by a particular plugin, but it happens in TV serires, MyAnime, and MovingPictures (and the log would suggest this isn't a plugin issue anyway). Since not many are replying to this, I guess this probably not a MP issue and that most people are not having the issue. The only other change I made is that I installed the SAF package for codecs, so I guess I'll uninstall that and do a manual registration of the MPC-HC codec as that is the main one I use (I've heard that ffdshow can cause this issue, but at the same time I don't see that ffdshow is being used in my HD videos, which is how it is supposed to be...).

    Will report back if I find anything new.

    Looks like this is a Windows 7 issue after all. What is happening is that when switching over to my cable box, Windows thinks the monitor has been disconnected, and as a result, resolution settings are let go. As soon as I switch back over, the resolution "changes" so to speak because Windows 7 sees the monitor again, and it goes back to the resolution I had it at. But this "change" (I can only best describe it as a screen flicker) is causing MP's resolution to change as well, and it confuses MP. As a result, MP is stuck at a smaller resolution and stays at that resolution even when 720p resolution is restored on the desktop. This is also causing video to stop playing if I leave a video playing when switching back and forth.

    So...I guess the question is now, how do I get Windows 7 not to do this and simply retain my desktop resolution? I've confirmed it isn't the ATI drivers, and I tried installing an ini file for a 1280x720 display at 60Hz (which is my resolution), but I still get this issue.

    Has anyone else with Windows 7 noticed this problem? You can test by having something like an IE window at full screen, switch over to another input if you have your PC connected to an A/V receiver, switch back, and you will see the IE window get cut in half. I tested this at a friends house as well on totally different TV, resolution, and A/V receiver.

    Well...for now my fix is to strip out all resolutions in the driver ini except for 1280x720 at 60Hz and reinstall the ATI driver with that modification. This works, but wow what a radical solution...

    Same here

    I have the same issue and also using Windows 7 with ATI 4850.
    Not sure I want to strip all other resolutions like you did but pulling out the keyboard and hitting alt+enter is very annoying:mad:
    BTW, I'm on driver 9.9 using 1.1.0 beta and also tried a fresh svn build from today.

    I don't remember this happening on XP or with MP 1.0.1

    This topic comes up a lot in this forum - you can just set your ATI drivers to not change resolution "Only detect when manually asked to" which is somewhere in the CCC software. I can tell you I have an ATI 4200HD with the Catalyst 9.9 drivers/software and this does not happen to me. My catalyst software is set to only "detect" screens when I tell it to.
