MP 1.1.0 Video Issue (1 Viewer)

My settings were already to "Only detect manually" so that doesn't help for me.
I did manage to somehow fix it yesterday although I haven't tracked down exactly what was the culprit.
Here's what I did:
- Install ATI Tray Tools (need to turn off required signed drivers for it to install on Win7)
- Killed all ATI/AMD processes (CCC, and 2 others I don't remember)

I still haven't rebooted yet so I'm not sure what did it exactly. I suspect CCC.exe is the problem. I'll report back onces I know for sure.

I have a similar problem: only sometimes, when I resume from sleep mode, I get the same sort of problem. I get half screen of MediaPortal.I always restart MediaPortal on resume. Maybe that is a problem. I'm also on windows 7. Never had this problem on Vista

I tried everything I could think of to get this to work within the ATI driver, and the only thing that did it for me was to strip all other resolutions out of the driver. It's one heck of a fix, but it'll work. And this appears to be only a Windows 7 issue (maybe it is an issue with the ATI driver and Windows 7, but I know for sure this doesn't happen in XP or Vista).

Well it seems my fixed didn't fix it. I'll have to try to remove all the other resolutions.
How do I get of all resolutions except the one I use?

Well, try at your own risk. Not responsible if anything breaks, but what you do is remove any DALNonStandardModesBCD entries in the driver's ini install file (note you have to keep the one that is your resolution - you'll need to figure that one out on your own). Then install the driver. It won't get rid of every single resolution as there are some from Windows itself, but it removed everything lower than the native resolution for me (except for 800x600 for some reason, but my TV won't accept this so it never "switches" to it or tries it, so works for me).

As anything this is experimental (and this I would consider very experimental), so results could vary.

A side note though - I tried a normal driver install with another television that has 1080p resolution, and didn't see this issue at all. For my 720p TV, Windows thinks that 1920x1080i@30Hz is the native resolution unless I try the above trick, so maybe that has something to do with the issue.

Looks like this is a Windows 7 issue after all. What is happening is that when switching over to my cable box, Windows thinks the monitor has been disconnected, and as a result, resolution settings are let go. As soon as I switch back over, the resolution "changes" so to speak because Windows 7 sees the monitor again, and it goes back to the resolution I had it at. But this "change" (I can only best describe it as a screen flicker) is causing MP's resolution to change as well, and it confuses MP. As a result, MP is stuck at a smaller resolution and stays at that resolution even when 720p resolution is restored on the desktop. This is also causing video to stop playing if I leave a video playing when switching back and forth.

So...I guess the question is now, how do I get Windows 7 not to do this and simply retain my desktop resolution? I've confirmed it isn't the ATI drivers, and I tried installing an ini file for a 1280x720 display at 60Hz (which is my resolution), but I still get this issue.

Has anyone else with Windows 7 noticed this problem? You can test by having something like an IE window at full screen, switch over to another input if you have your PC connected to an A/V receiver, switch back, and you will see the IE window get cut in half. I tested this at a friends house as well on totally different TV, resolution, and A/V receiver.

Like Grooves12, I have the option to manually set the resolution only too, but this setting has no effect.

This is something i am now experiencing since an upgrade from Windows 7 RC1 to Windows 7 HP Full. It never happened in RC1 so I assume it is something with the latest builds of full Windows 7.

I am using a Radeon HD4200 as well.

As soon as someone comes up with a fix for this, please do let us know, it is VERY annoying!

I can't remember the names, but there are 2 or 3 items in the startup
AMD external events utility, ATI CCC, ATIHOTKEY PROFILER, CLISTART etc..

Just do a google on everything in msconfig and services.msc that doesn't belong to microsoft, and if it belongs to ati/amd then disable it.
