    Nice (y)

    so what's next?
    Investigate what your network and/or server are doing that could cause the TV plugin's communication with the server to lag.

    Basically I would agree, but watching TV or Recorded TV or Movies or Series from the NAS isn't interrupted at all. not even with 1080p DTS content.
    So it's obviously not the communication between the Client and the Server, but the client plugin and Mediaportal itself.

    I don't agree with this conclusion. The fact that ZBOX can play files from your NAS without problems is not an indication that TV Server itself, the PC TV Server is running on, or that PC's connection to the network is okay. That's why I said please check your server. In my opinion it's significantly less likely that the communication between the TV plugin and MediaPortal (ie. the client software) could be problematic.

    ZBOX can play 1080p from the NAS, from the TV Servers HDD and also FullHD Live TV without stuttering.
    The TV Server performance is also okay, as I can view FullHD and record another FullHD programm at the same time.

    another vid where also the bitrate is shown:
    so those hangers affect only the GUI and not the playback.

    I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say.

    There are at least 3 connections between MediaPortal and TV Server:
    1. .NET remoting - used for command and control (eg. start time-shifting channel XYZ).
    2. Database - used for retrieving data (eg. get the list of available channels).
    3. RTSP or SMB/UNC - used for streaming live TV and recordings.
    All of what you've been saying seems to relate to the 3rd connection, whereas I'm primarily concerned with the 1st and 2nd connections. I'm ignoring the 3rd connection because your videos show that the problem happens even when you're not streaming live TV or recordings.

    so those hangers affect only the GUI and not the playback.
    Yes, I understand. Plugins can affect the GUI display/responsiveness when their background operations (eg. TV plugin .NET remoting "heart-beat" connection to TV Server) are running slower than normal.

    To be clear, the sorts of things I'd suggest you do are:
    • check Windows task manager and resource monitor on both client and server for high CPU, HDD or network usage
    • check if [temporarily] disabling firewalls and/or any other network security software on client and server makes any difference
    • check the server ping and nslookup responses and timing from the client

    okay, got it. thx for the explanation.

    so I checked the processes and discovered, that during the hangs on the ZBOX the mysqld.exe CPU utilization on the TV-Server goes up to 70%.
    I already excluded the process from the security suite.
    any ideas how to dig a bit deeper here?

    Both MySQL and TV Server have log files which can be checked.
    I'd also look at the Windows system and application event logs.

    P.S. I assume you're not normally using MP via a TeamViewer connection. :D

    I found something in the windows logs of TV-Server, but I don't think it's related to my problem:
    <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
    <System>
    <Provider Name="MySQL" />
    <EventID Qualifiers="49152">100</EventID>
    <Level>3</Level>
    <Task>0</Task>
    <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords>
    <TimeCreated SystemTime="2016-01-29T00:24:31.000000000Z" />
    <EventRecordID>30319</EventRecordID>
    <Channel>Application</Channel>
    <Computer>htpc</Computer>
    <Security />
    </System>
    <EventData>
    <Data>TIMESTAMP with implicit DEFAULT value is deprecated. Please use --explicit_defaults_for_timestamp server option (see documentation for more details).</Data>
    </EventData>
    </Event>

    the mysql-log is okay.

    the windows logs from ZBOX are also okay.
    is there a way to disable directx for the GUI? or maybe downgrading it?
    attached are some specs from dxdiag. the power of ZBOX should be enough..

    so i'm running out of ideas..[DOUBLEPOST=1454077046][/DOUBLEPOST]

    Try excluding all the mysqld related executables i.e. the whole MySQL installation folder in Program Files, and the database files themselves (I think they are in ProgramData) from security scanning. I've had problems in the past with Microsoft mssql database files being scanned and making database access very slow...

    small update:

    changed the windows7 settings at the tv-server to "performance" and now it got a bit better on ZBOX.
    I installed win7 on another pc and then mediaportal 1.13 with the same extensions as ZBOX and it works like a charme.
    So I uninstalled mediaportal on ZBOX with that "wipe everything" option and installed it again. and what should I say: the same effect as before...
    i already uninstalled AV on all those machines and disabled the firewalls as well as the windows defender.

    so i guess i have to live with that.
