"don't drop discontinued packets" was unticked in my settings. I can't remember if it was ticked or unticked in 1.2.0Beta, or if the installation of 1.2.0RC automatically unticked it to accommodate code changes.

I'll tick it and see how that goes..

... update: So far so good, no pauses noticed for half an hour, flicking light switches produces no glitches or pauses. That setting may have resolved the issue.

    Hmmmm

Don't get me wrong - I'm happy that that change seems to have resolved the issue. However I'm a little concerned that this issue seems to have started in 1.2.0rc (or at least it wasn't obvious in 1.2.0b).

I've now watched some live TV & have seen impulse noise glitches, but they didn't lead to any pauses as described, but I have the don't drop discontinued packets setting ticked.

I'll see if can do some testing with that option off in the next day or two.

    The technical explanation...

One of the changes to TsReader since 1.2.0Beta fixed a bug which means that now the 'drop discontinued packets' logic works the same way for MPEG2 as it did for H.264 i.e. on a signal discontinuity it drops the PES packet and flags the next good sample (PES packet) sent to the decode filter as discontinuous. What happens next depends on how each decode filter handles this, but some will stall and wait until the next GOP start - which can take 0.5 sec or longer (MPEG2 GOPs are usually 12 - 18 frames long).

Having the "don't drop discontinued packets" option ticked is fine if everything is working OK. AFAIK, the feature basically exists because a few decode filters don't like having corrupted data fed to them, which is why it's not ticked by default (the safe option).

Seems the stutter/freezes is mostly gone now. Live tv is watchable again.

Thanks for the explanation on the technical side. I´m curious if you have changed the logging also from the Beta version?
Since i did not see the discontinuity errors in the 1.2.0 Beta logs. I would like to tweak it, but my satbox claims the signal
to be good and no stutter. I´m starting to look at the Tevii tv-card, maybe driver issues?

So far problem is frequent in my case. Ok. I am trying with "don't drop discontinued packets" ticked on now. I will report my experience. Not much hope as it happens on recordings as well so it is not TSReader fault.
