If you want further help with the flicker then you'll need to post fresh log files... but before you do that, please take a look at this guide:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/guide-perfect-playback-display-calibration.119610/

I hope it will help you get rid of the flicker and any other video or audio quality problems you may have.
    Nope, stull flickering... but....
I couldn't set MediaPortal Audio Renderer settings because I have no Mediaportal Audio Renderer device! Any idea why it's not there?

    New logs attached.

Possibly because you're running an old version of MP which doesn't include it.
I have a vague recollection that it doesn't work on XP, and using it with TV is not recommended (unless you understand the consequences) anyway.

In any case, that is only one aspect of the guide. How about the rest? For example, refresh rate changing (which I can see is not enabled in your logs) and so on?

P.S.: To get hardware accelerated video decoding working you need to use a video codec that is not LAV... because you're running a variant of XP, and LAV doesn't support DXVA1 (which is the only version of hardware accelerated video decoding that works on XP). Try the Cyberlink or FFDShow DXVA codecs.

The only codec choice seems to be LAV. Where do I find & install other codecs? The installation guide doesn't offer any clues.

That's only because you haven't got any other codecs installed.

So many answers to this question.
A lot of commercial media software (eg. Cyberlink PowerDVD, ArcSoft TotalMedia) includes codecs. You get the codecs when you install the software.
There are other codecs which can be purchased and installed separately. For example, the CoreAVC codec. Some are free, for example AC3Filter, FFDShow, and the LAV codecs.
Sometimes codecs are distributed in packs. For example, K-Lite, Shark, SAF, DivX. You just search for the codec pack (eg. using google, or bing or whatever), then download and install them. Some packs are free; some aren't.
    Windows also installs/includes codecs.

Stupid me, I should have backed everything up before installing SAF codec pack, which just hosed all playback. uinistalled it, and the default Mediaportal codecs are all gone. AARGH! Well, time to find that Dell Cyberlink CD and install Cyberlink codecs, I guess.

Thanks for your help. I guess I should have stayed with 1.2.3, which worked without problems with default installation. I have been fighting the idea of Win 7 upgrades for my machines, but i guess I need to do it for this one just so I don't have to deal with all these "wor't work with XP" problems.

Server works fine, because I can view stations by turning on stream with Server Config and watching it in VLC.

You can get the LAV codecs back by installing the package from the MP Extension Manager/Installer. Link in your start menu Team-MediaPortal->MediaPortal folder.

Well, I did just that and without making any changes to the defaults, it all works perfectly now. Go figure!

Now to figure out why the SchedulesDirect extension can't find the programs on my OTA PBS station...

Thanks again for all your help!
