I remember reading Nevcairiel talk about it and that it can crash if the video drivers it buggy etc. So maybe worth a try to test without the option, like MP GUI consume more memory, it can trigger something :)

Right now it looks like my only option is to use MPC-HC as an external player which sucks cuz you lose a lot that way.

Okay here is screenshot of my installed LAV video settings
So you're comparing MP using LAV 0.68 and MPC-HC using LAV 0.66? That's not necessarily a fair comparison. Newer is not always better. I suggest you try MP with LAV 0.66.

Okay, tried with 0.66 and i got the started with a black screen but not go anywhere or actually play anything result. To refresh, this is what MP-HC is using and works like a charm.

Next I am going to try MadVR and see where that gets me.

Will report back shortly. Again, thanks so much guys and gals, you rock.

Log files would be appreciated, just so we can double-check.

I have assumed that either LAV or the GPU driver are at fault, so my hypothesis is that MadVR won't help (or will make the situation worse, since it's still a little unstable/buggy).

Had busy weekend. Will get new log files in a few. But I am curious MM (not that I don't believe you, as you know what you are talking about, but I would like to understand if you dont mind) why you think it is LAV or video drivers when both LAV and the video drivers are in play with MPC-HC and it works?

Just to recap. MPC-HC and MPC-BE everything works correctly, in VLC and MP things do not.

Anyway, give me a few and I will have new logs.

On another note, tomorrow I will be getting a 4GB GTX 960 that also has HDMI 2.0 and 10 bit HEVC. That should help to further narrow down the culprit.
