We are build an installer related to this Jira (based on 1.7.0 Pre-release + latest code in Master branch):
    https://issues.team-mediaportal.com/browse/MP1-4420
With it you will be able to set a delay on resume and on MP start (to let enough time to device to be init correctly)

Can you try ? (Installer link will be on Jira ASAP)

I will give it a try after the next crash.
Currently I have disabled the option to render MP at a lower FPS when not in focus - I always want to only change one thing at a time.

    And the reason seems:
[2014-03-19 02:16:04,895] [Error ] [MPMain ] [ERROR] - VolumeHandler: Mixer exception when init System.InvalidOperationException: Der Vorgang ist aufgrund des aktuellen Zustands des Objekts ungültig.
    bei MediaPortal.Mixer.Mixer.Open(Int32 mixerIndex, Boolean isDigital)
    bei MediaPortal.Player.VolumeHandler..ctor(Int32[] volumeTable)
So something seems to go wrong on initializing...
