Hi, im running a client/server on this desktop pc. its a quadcore 2.6Ghz, 4gb memory, vista 64 bit. i went to vista since media portal simply wouldnt work on XP, no body could seem to help or give any solutions or things to check. i installed it a few days ago, has been working well fr probably 3 days, maybe 4 i cant remember. one thing i have noticed tho each day late in the afternoon it looses connection to the tv server.

today i changed the audio settings on my computer. i enabled the sound device to have 2 audio outputs, one going to my speakers, and one going to the monitor. the monitor was the primary device, speakers secondary, and changed Mediaportal configuration, so that TV, DVD, videos, and music all went to the 2nd device, the speakers. this way all my audio goes to the monitor and just mediaportal would go to the speakers. this failed. when i tried to start tv it would crash. windows would throw up the dialogue box saying this program has stopped. radio worked well, but tv would crash.

so i changed everything back exactly as it was, and now it still crashes! doesnt work. anyone have any ideas?

ive attached the logs.

but things have changed. i thought id try reinstalling mediaportal, maybe that would fix it? its not worse. i cant connect to the tv server.when i click on tv, it goes to the tv set up page asking for an ip address or host name. ive tried tv, 192.168.1.20, 127.0.0.1, localhost, all failed. i dont even understand this menu? there is only 2 buttons, change and back? back obviously goes back to the main menu, and change brings up the keyboard to enter the address. where is the save or ok button?? i click change, enter the address click ok, and it brings me back to the same menu with change or back??

but why can i not connect to my tv server? the server is still running, its still recording the programs that are scheduled, i can open vlc and play the recorded files from the hard drive as they are being recorded, so the server is still running.

is there any troubleshooting i can do? how can i find out why it cannot connect? and why did it just stop working all of a sudden??? this is the same issue i had back when i had xp!! it would work for the first few days of being installed, but after that it simply does not work! on xp i deleted all of the mediaportal client and server, deleted everything i could find related to them, removed the ms sql programs, tried to install with mysql, then mssql, nothing worked. what am i supposed to do?? this has been many months where my tv hasnt worked and im about ready to go back to media centre, at least i can rely on it working!! mediaportal has been nothing but trouble for me, and no one on the forums has been able to help at all.

im now going to uninstall the tvserver, i was trying to avoid this, as its all configured how i want.. and since absolutely nothing changed in the tvserver (or nothing that i changed myself) i cant see why it is the problem. if that doesnt work, i guess its time to abandon this and go back to the reliable media centre. i really do hope someone can help, i have wasted soo many weeks and months, lately many full days working on it, and it just doesnt go. i do like the features, but if its not reliable wna breaks every few days whats the point? especially when no one can explain whats going on.

OK, i uninstalled mediaportal client and server, reinstalled as a single seat installation (which installs both server and client) scanned tv channels in server, saved and exited server config, open MP config, changed screen selector to 2nd screen, saved and exited. ran mediaportal clicked on tv, went into the tv menu and then turned on tv, and it then stopped. mediaportal closed with the vista dialogue box saying mediaportal has stopped. so im back to where i was yesterday. i can connect to the server again, but cant play tv. this also happens if i try to play recorded tv.

heres the logs:

also can someone please explain what to look for in the logs? what would be causing my problems? i had a look at every log, i didnt really see anything. in the mediaportal log the last line is showing the screen cropping values.

any help would be great.

since playing around with codecs i got it to work. i changed them all to cyberlink codecs and it worked, so changed them back one by one, and found H.264 video decoder was the cause, its now set to cyberlink H.264/AVC decoder, it was on "MainConcept (Adobe2) H.264/AVC Decoder"

any ideas as to why this caused my problem? especially since it was previously working with that mainconcept decoder?

main thing is its working now.... just hope it doesnt break as easily as it was fixed..

try Graphedit tool so you can connect to Directshow while MediaPortal is playing, and see precisely wich codec is being used for audio/video and then wich output is the target for each stream. It can help to clear the situation when you have a real mess in the codec settings.

yes thats a good question, but i have tried on both my desktop and laptop computers, all codecs set to default, which is MPV and MPA, if i set the H.264 to what it was originally set to i have mediaportal freeze when i start tv, change it to cyberlink H.264 decoder and everything works. it is odd..

can you post a graphedit view ? that would be interesting to see how your codecs are being used.
personally, i use Graphstudio wich is easier to find and install : RadScorpion’s blog MONOGRAM GraphStudio

im not sure it can help, but i'm also having strange problems with my codecs sometime, and I saw that sometime with graphstudio the codec I was setting in MP were not the codec actually in use when playing TV.

    Hi,
Doesn't dvb-t stream which you have use the same as norwegian dvb-t H.264(using pdvd codecs seems best) for video & AAC(monogram aac decoder) for audio?
